After a pair of wins last week to extend its winning streak to nine games, the Syracuse women's lacrosse team continues to surge up the national polls. The Orange find themselves at No. 4 in the IWLCA Coaches Poll and at No. 3 in the KANE Media Poll, both season highs.
Syracuse's nine-game winning streak features five wins over ranked opponents, including No. 13 Loyola, No. 4 Northwestern, No. 7 Yale, No. 19 Virginia and No. 23 Pittsburgh.
The most recent victory over Pittsburgh was a dominant display, scoring eight unanswered goals to start the game before going on to lead 15-2 at the end of the third quarter. The offense was led by Mackenzie Rich's career-best seven points on four assists and three goals while Molly Guzik extended her goal streak to 12 games with four on the day.
The Orange boast one of the strongest defenses in the nation, holding opponents to just 7.0 goals per game, the third-lowest in the nation. Izzy Lahah and Coco Vandiver lead the way with 34 and 29 caused turnovers, respectively. Vandiver made history against Pittsburgh, recording her 102nd caused turnover in her career to become the new program leader in the category. Dan Guyette has held it down in cage, owning a 6.8 goals against average, third-best in the nation.
Syracuse keeps it rolling this week with a pair of road games. The Orange face off with in-state foe Cornell on Tuesday, March 31 before traveling to Durham to clash with No. 17 Duke on Saturday, April 4. The Orange play their final home regular season game of the year on Saturday, April 11 when they take on Notre Dame at the JMA Wireless Dome. The contest against Notre Dame will serve as the program's Senior Day. For tickets, visit cuse.com/lacrosse-tickets.
