STANFORD, Cal. - The Syracuse softball team (16-6, 0-3 ACC) was swept by No. 19 Stanford (16-4, 5-1 ACC) after losing the final game of its ACC opening series, 9-0, in six innings on Sunday at Stanford Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Stanford struck first, scoring on a wild pitch the bases loaded in the bottom of the second inning. The Cardinal tacked on two runs the following inning with a pair of RBI singles.

Stanford extended its lead to 6-0 with a three-run fourth. The Cardinal scored their fourth and fifth runs of the game with a two-run double, before adding its sixth tally with a solo home run.

A three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth sealed the run-rule 9-0 victory for Stanford over 'Cuse.

OF NOTE:

Madison Knight got the start in the circle, tossing three innings, allowing six hits and four runs, while also striking out five.
Syracuse was held to three hits on the day. Madelyn Lopez, Kelly Breen, and Kaimi Tulua provided the the knocks for the Orange.
The loss drops 'Cuse to 0-7 in the all-time series against Stanford.

UP NEXT:
The Orange travel to take on Duke in their second ACC series of the season from Friday, March 14 through Sunday, March 16.
