Orange Fall to No. 19 Stanford
3/8/2025 7:04:00 PM | Softball
STANFORD, Cal. - The Syracuse softball team (16-5, 0-2 ACC) fell to No. 19 Stanford (16-3, 4-1 ACC), 5-1, in the second game of its ACC-opening weekend. Much like the series opener, the Cardinal jumped out to an early four-run lead, and despite Syracuse's efforts to rally, the Orange were unable to close the gap.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Stanford struck first in the bottom of the second inning, bringing home a run after a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded. The Cardinal extended their lead in the next at-bat with a two-run single, making it a 3-0 game.
Â
The Orange posed a threat in the top of the fourth inning, loading the bases after Madelyn Lopez and Kelly Breen walked, and Angie Ramos sent a single to center field. Laila Morales-Alves then produced the only run of the game for Syracuse the following hitting with a sacrifice fly to bring home Lopez.
Â
The Cardinal would respond in the bottom of the frame, however, reclaiming their four-run lead with an RBI ground out to first base. Neither team scored for the remainder of the game, as Stanford took a 5-1 victory in game two of the series.
Â
OF NOTE:Â
'Cuse concludes its series against Stanford tomorrow, March 9, at 3 p.m. ET (12 p.m. PT) on ACC Network Extra. Fans interested in watching can stream the contest online or through the ESPN app.
