Caramelli Leads #8 Orange Past Pitt

PITTSBURGH – Sophomore Joely Caramelli scored a career-high three goals and recorded a personal-best 10 draw controls to lead the No. 8/6 Syracuse women's lacrosse team to a 17-11 victory on Saturday.

Ten different players scored for the Orange, six of which had multiple goals. Freshman Caroline Trinkaus continued her stellar play with two goals and two assists for a team-high four points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Syracuse (5-4, 2-2) led 4-3 when the game was delayed more than 45 minutes due to lightning in the area. When play resumed, the Orange used a 5-1 scoring run during the remainder of the half to take a 10-4 lead into the lock room at halftime.

The Panthers (5-4, 1-3) responded in the third quarter, outscoring Syracuse, 4-1, to cut the 'Cuse advantage to 11-8 heading into the final 15 minutes.

Emma Ward started the scoring in the fourth quarter with a hard shot from the top of the fan, but back-to-back goals by Pittsburgh brought the Panthers within two at 12-10. The squads traded goals before the Orange tallied the final four goals of the game for the 17-11 final.

The Orange posted 12 caused turnovers, marking the fourth time this season that 'Cuse has posted 10+ caused turnovers in a game. Alexa Vogelman and Superia Clark led the way with three apiece.

Syracuse is back on the road to take on No. 16/15 Loyola in Baltimore on Wednesday, March 19. The Greyhounds will be the Orange's seventh ranked opponent of the season.
