BALTIMORE – Junior Emma Muchnick scored a career-high five goals, including the game winner, to lead No. 9/8 Syracuse women's lacrosse to a 14-12 victory at No. 17/17 Loyola on Wednesday. The win is the Orange's second-straight on the road and improves their record to 6-4.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Muchnick scored back-to-back goals to start the game and a Caroline Trinkaus goal gave Syracuse the early lead. After Geogia Latch put Loyola on the scoreboard, Joely Caramelli and Trinkaus went back-to-back to extend the lead to 5-1.
Â
Muchnick's fourth goal of the day started the second quarter and gave 'Cuse a 7-3 advantage. The Greyhounds (5-5) scored three-straight goals to get within one, but the Orange responded with three unanswered goals of their own and led 11-7 at halftime.
Â
Loyola controlled the third quarter, using a 4-0 scoring run to tie the game at 11-11. Caramelli halted the Greyhound scoring run with her 10th goal of the season to send Syracuse to the fourth quarter with a 12-11 advantage.
Â
Ava Kane found the back of the 11 seconds into the final period to even the score at 12-12, but that would be Loyola's final goal of the game. Muchnick answered less than a minute later when she weaved through the Loyola defense and scored on a low shot to give Syracuse the lead for good. Alexa Vogelman added a free position goal for the 14-12 final.
Â
