THE GAME
- It's another round at the JMA Wireless Dome as the second-ranked Orange take on their first top-20 opponent of the year in 17th-ranked Towson. It's a rematch from the first round of the 2024 NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Tournament as Syracuse and the Tigers meet in the regular season for the first time in a quarter century.
- The Orange are coming off a 13-5 win over upset-minded Vermont as Syracuse raced off to a 10-1 lead at halftime, backed by a defensive effort that kept the Catamounts off the board at the Dome for well over 20 minutes.
- Towson returns to Central New York after battling for 60 minutes against eighth-ranked Johns Hopkins on Tuesday, the season opener for both teams, and both of which are on the 2025 Syracuse schedule.
- Joey Spallina led Syracuse's offensive efforts with 10 points on an evenly-split five goals and five assists, all of which came in the first 35 minutes of the game. Jimmy McCool had a career outing in goal, making 11 saves in his 55 minutes of action. Defensively, Chuck Kuczynski was stellar, causing four turnovers from the LSM position.
- Monday night's game is slated for a 5 p.m. start on ACC Network Extra with Tyler Aitken and All-American Stephen Rehfuss '21 in the booth with Sean Dorcellus '21 working the sideline.
- Tim Leonard '20 (play-by-play) and Kyle Fetterly '09 (analyst) take to the airwaves on Syracuse Sports Network and TK99/105 locally, Cuse.com, The Varsity App, and TuneIn App, as well as Syracuse University student-radio station WAER.
A DC'S WORST NIGHTMARE CONTINUES
- Syracuse's offense is potent, efficient and deep - a triple threat for opposing defensive coordinators.
- The Orange opened 2025 against Jacksonville with a 24-goal outburst with 12 different players scoring a goal, including eight with multiple goals. Sixteen different players registered a point. More impressively: No player scored more than four goals and that was just one player - Michael Leo, who did his damage in the first half, including a natural hat trick in less than minutes midway through the second quarter.
- The Orange offense followed that up on Friday night with six different goal getter, including four multiple goal scorers while eight different players chipped in at least one point.
- 'Cuse returns 324 points from a 2024 team that scored 432 points a year ago, exactly 75 percent of one of the country's best scoring units last spring.
- Over the last two seasons, Syracuse has finished in the top six in points per game in the NCAA, averaging 24.00 last year and 23.00 in 2023, fourth and sixth place, respectively.
THE TOWSON SERIES
- An annual meet up through the heart of the 1990s, the Syracuse and Towson series is renewed in the regular season with the first non-May meeting since a 10-3 Orange win down in Baltimore County on March 25, 2000.
- The two teams met last season, however as the NCAA Selection Committee paired the teams for the first round at the JMA Wireless Dome to round out the first weekend of postseason play. Syracuse out-last the Tigers 20-15 that Sunday night, putting in separating with a 9-1 third quarter.
- Syracuse has not hosted the Tigers during the regular season since March 21, 1998. That proved to be the final season for both program's long-time head coaches, Syracuse's Roy Simmons Jr. and the late Carl Runk, who passed away in November. The two legends of the game combined for 552 wins in their careers.
- The Orange are 10-3 all-time against the Tigers, a series that dates back to March 27, 1972. The Tigers won the first two meetings, first at Towson then at Syracuse, before the Orange reeled off nine straight against the Tigers from 1989 to 2000. Syracuse is 4-1 at home against Towson, including 4-0 at the Dome.
A WIN ON MONDAY WOULD...
- Improve Syracuse to 3-0 this season and start the season 3-0 for the third consecutive season.
- Move Syracuse to 11-3 all-time against Towson.
- See the Orange win their 273rd game in the JMA Wireless Dome.
- Be the 951st win in program history, second-most among Division I programs.
- Bump Syracuse's home winning streak to six in a row dating back to a 19-13 win over rv High Point last season. The Orange have out-scored opponents 104-59 across the last five home games.
