No. 2 Men's Lacrosse Takes Care of Vermont

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse University men's lacrosse took care of business both offensively and defensively Friday evening inside the JMA Wireless Dome, earning a 13-5 win over Vermont for the program's 950th win all-time.
Eight different Orange players recorded a point in the contest, led by a career-high 10 points from Joey Spallina. Spallina led the team in both points and assists, recording five in each category to tie his career-best points from a season ago. Chuck Kuczynski recorded a team-best four caused turnovers, while John Mullen led SU with six ground balls.
Vermont had a different player record each goal and assist tonight. Ryan Daly saved a career-high 18 shots for the Catamounts. Vermont had 22 turnovers in the contest while only causing seven.

How It Happened
- Joey Spallina started off the scoring for the Orange, kicking off six unanswered goals for the Orange to start the game. Vermont got on the board with 4 minutes and 25 seconds to go in the first quarter thanks to Jack Combs.
- Syracuse held the Catamounts scoreless in the second frame, while recording four more points of their own. Spallina, Trey Deere, and Payton Anderson all found the back of the net to give the Orange a 10-1 advantage going into halftime.
- SU's offense picked up right where they left off after the break, as Finn Thomson netted one just 70 seconds into the third frame of action. A little over two minutes later, Spallina recorded his fifth goal of the night to match his career-best with 10 points in the game.
- After an Owen Hiltz goal late in the third quarter, Vermont scored the final three goals, with the Orange picking up their 950th program win, 13-5.
Behind the Numbers
- Syracuse improved to 2-0 on the season, its third consecutive season under head coach Gary Gait staying undefeated through the first two contests.
- The Orange put 31 of their 48 shots on net tonight, a 65 percent shot-on-goal mark. Joey Spallina led the team with nine shots.
- Joey Spallina led the team in both goals and assists, recording five of each on his way to tying his career-high 10 points in the contest. He last notched 10 points in a game against Manhattan last season (2/9/24).
- 'Cuse won its 950th game in program history tonight against Vermont, and their fourth win against the Catamounts all-time. The Orange are second-place all-time in wins behind their March 9 opponent Johns Hopkins.
- The Orange play inside the JMA Wireless Dome again on Monday, Feb. 10, against No. 17 Towson.
