
Mallard Breaks School Record at Cornell

Elijah Mallard set a new school record in the 300-meter dash to headline the Syracuse track and field team's opening meet of the season.
Mallard broke his own school record and won the event by nearly a full second, crossing the line in 33.85 seconds.
It was one of four event wins on the day for the Orange, which also won the men's and women's 60-meter hurdles, women's 60-meter dash at the Cornell Greg Page Relays.
Tawakal Omar earned a win in his first meet with at 'Cuse in the men's 60-meter hurdles. He crossed the line in 8.28 seconds to secure the win. Jamir Brown ran a 7.71 second time in the prelims, but did not finish in the finals.
In the women's event, Peyton Rollins (8.40 seconds) and Emeline Clark (8.46 seconds) took the top-two spots. Marissa Saunders (9.11 seconds). Ivana Richards (9.29 seconds) and Billie Frazier (9.36 seconds) also raced.
Indie Wallace-Persaud crossed the line of the 60-meter dash in 7.42 seconds to earn her first collegiate victory. Esther Ganda (7.94 seconds), Jada Williams (8.39 seconds) and Bianca Williams (8.61 seconds) all ran in the prelims for SU.
Luise Hiltzbleck was the runner-up in the 3,000-meter run, finishing in 10:17.68. She was followed two places behind by Grace Finnegan (10:35.74).
Blake Parker took third to lead a host of Orange in the women's mile. She finished in 5:19.98. Teammates Hailey Schuemann (5:32.68) and Lizzie Bigelow (5:35.66) finished ninth and 10th, respectively. Samantha Bloch (6:07.95) was 14th, followed three placed back by Kayla Harding.
The Orange will return to action in January.
