Multiple Orange Make Podium at U23 World Rowing Championships

Syracuse women's rowing was represented internationally this week at the 2026 World Rowing Under-23 Championships. Olivia Bachert '27 helped the United States' women's eight to a gold medal, while Ella McKinley '27 placed fifth in the women's eight with Canada. Ellie Kate Hutchinson '26 and Acorn Cassidy '28 helped Great Britain earn silver in the women's four.Â
ÂBachert, rowing in the six-seat, helped the United States' eight advance to the A Final after winning its preliminary heat. The U.S. led the entire way in the final to secure gold.Â
It marks the 20th consecutive year the United States' under-23 women's eight has reached the podium at this event. Bachert continues her run of success at the international stage, following her silver finish in the 2024 U23 Women's coxed four. Bachert was joined in the U.S. eight by Quincy Stone, Elsa Hartman, Amelia Boes, Joely Cherniss, Hannah Smith, Lauren Dubois, Katherine Nordheim and Amy Werner.Â
ÂMcKinley also represented the Orange in the women's eight, placing fifth in the A final with Canada. The rising senior sat stroke seat and was joined by Novella Rusman, Bethany Nordstrom, Lexi Schimnowski, Madelyn Vandermeer, Riley Richardson, Madeleine Lauriault, Lucy Hallett and Charlotte Langlois.Â
ÂCompeting for Great Britain in the women's four, Ellie Kate Hutchinson and Acorn Cassidy earned silver after winning the semifinal race to advance to the A final as Cassidy was 2-seat and Hutchinson was 3-seat. Hutchinson continued her international success as she helped Great Britain earn gold in the women's four last summer. Cassidy won silver for Great Britain in the U19 women's four in 2024. Hutchinson and Cassidy were joined in the four by Amelia Greed and Rhiannon Luke.
Bachert, Cassidy and Hutchinson all raced for the Orange varsity eight that was 9th at the NCAA Championship. McKinley did not race for the Orange in the postseason.
