
Field Hockey Shuts Out Longwood on the Road

Syracuse shutout Longwood (3-3) on the road, 4-0, on Sunday afternoon to improve to 5-2 this season. The Orange held a two goal lead at hafltime and scored one a piece in each of the last two quarters to earn their third shutout victory of the season.
After a scoreless first frame, Bo van Kempen put the Orange on a board when she scored on a a corner with an assist from Berber Bakermans at 22:46. Seven minutes later senior Vivan Rowan scored on a rebound in the 30th minute just before the end of the first half for the 2-0 lead.Â
Lieke Leeggangers made it a 3-0 Orange lead at 37:28 when she scored her first goal of the season on a pass from Willemijn Boogery, who tallied her sixth helped of the year on the play.Â
Hattie Madden put the final tally on the scoreboard in the 52nd minute for the 4-0 final score. Bo van Kempen assisted on the goal.Â
Syracuse out-shot Longwood 24-2 in the win with 18 shots on goal. Louise Pert and Vera Hekkenberg split time in goal with Pert starting the first half and Hekkenberg relieving the senior with a comfortable 2-0 lead at halftime. Neither goalkeeper faced a shot in the combined shutout.Â
The Orange road swing continues Friday, Sept. 27 when the Orange head to Winston-Salem, N.C., to face Wake Forest in an Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) matchup.Â
