How it Happened
- Pressure was even through the first 14 minutes of the game as neither side could get much going on offense during an initial feeling out phase.
- Harvard picked up two corners late in the first quarter, both coming under the 15 second mark. The Syracuse defensive penalty corner unit stood tall and batted down both attempts for scoreless opening period.
- Late in the second quarter it was time for the Orange to put the pressure on Harvard. Berber Bakermans got the lone Syracuse shot of the half but went high in the 24th minute, the only shot for either team in the second 15 minute window.
- The Orange had a corner chance called, but after a Harvard referral, it was deemed a fair play and the corner was waved off in the 26th minute.
- After controlling much of the play in the early portion of the third, Syracuse earned back-to-back corners. Van Kempen was the trigger for both attempts with the first saved by Shahbo and the second going just over the crossbar in the 39th minute.
- Through the first 45 minutes of the game, neither team could find the backboard, pushing things to the fourth without a score.
- Pert came huge with two huge saves in the fourth quarter to hold the Crimson off the board, including one on a blast from the Harvard penalty corner unit. The second came on a shot from the baseline as the game headed to overtime tied at zero.
- The Crimson were awarded a corner in the 64th minute but the chance went wide. A minute later, Syracuse got a corner opportunity but that shot was stopped by Shahbo with a second chance rebound coming out that was again halted by Shahbo.
- Another minute into the overtime the Orange got their final shot of the season but Shahbo was equal to it. The rebound got Harvard out in transition to set up the Beekhuis goal.
- With the season at an end, the NFHCA will begin announcing its annual All-Region and All-America teams in the coming weeks.
