To-10 Battle in Durham This Weekend
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Syracuse University field hockey climbed back into the top 10 in the latest National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) poll, released Tuesday morning. The No. 9 Orange head south this weekend for a matchup with No. 3 Duke.
Syracuse (6-2) moved up two spots from No. 11 with 123 points, matching its preseason ranking for its best position of the season. Last week, the Orange blanked then-No. 9 Virginia 3-0 to open ACC play before falling 4-2 at then-No. 3 Wake Forest on Sunday.
Northwestern remained No. 1 for the sixth straight week with 220 points and all 11 first-place votes. Maryland held at No. 2 with 209 points. Duke and UMass tied for third with 186 points each, and Wake Forest slipped two spots to fifth with 173.
Seven of the nine ACC programs were ranked in the top 20 this week: No. 3 Duke, No. 5 Wake Forest, No. 9 Syracuse, No. 11 Virginia, No. 12 North Carolina, No. 16 Louisville and No. 20 California. North Carolina re-entered the poll after a one-week absence.
In addition to its ACC opponents, Syracuse will also face current No. 8 Harvard. The Crimson moved up two spots with 139 points and visit Syracuse on Oct. 11.
The Orange continue ACC play Friday, Oct. 2 at No. 3 Duke. Game time at Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium is set for 3 p.m. on ACC Network Extra. Syracuse then returns home for a two-game homestand against No. 16 Louisville on Oct. 9 and No. 8 Harvard on Oct. 11.
