The Syracuse women's lacrosse program was named an at-large selection to the NCAA Tournament on Sunday evening, set to take on Loyola Maryland in the opening round on Friday, May 8 at 7 p.m. The Orange and Greyhounds will clash in Annapolis, Maryland, joining No. 6 seeded Navy and UMass for the opening rounds.
Â
The Orange and the Greyhounds met earlier this season, with Syracuse earning a 15-7 win at the JMA Wireless Dome. Should the Orange win the opening round game, they'll take on the winner between UMass and Navy on Sunday, May 10 at 1 p.m. Both games will air on ESPN+.
The quarterfinal rounds will also be played at on-campus sites on Thursday, May 14. The Final Four will be held at Martin Stadium in Chicago, Illinois with the semifinal set for Friday, May 22 and the championship on Sunday, May 24.
Â
Under first-year head coach Regy Thorpe, the Orange went 13-5, which included a 12-game winning streak, and reached as high as No 3 in the national polls.
Â
The Orange boast one of the nation's top defenses, holding foes to 8.06 goals per game, the 11th best mark in the nation. Izzy Lahah and Coco Vandiver lead the backline, logging 51 and 42 caused turnovers, respectively. They are the first pair of teammates in program history to each have 40 or more caused turnovers in a single season, while Lahah set the new program record for single-season caused turnovers. Both were named All-ACC Second Teamers.
Â
Daniella Guyette supplements the defense in net with a 7.81 goals-against average. The senior held ranked opponents to just 7.8 goals per game leading up to the ACC Tournament. She was named the ACC Goalkeeper of the Year last week in addition to First Team All-ACC honors.
Â
Meanwhile, the offense is spearheaded by Molly Guzik's team-high 50 points. Drawing teams' top defenders, Guzik managed to compile 40 goals in her sophomore season. She had a breakout performance against the top-ranked team in the RPI, Northwestern Wildcats, when she scored six goals to lead the Orange to a 9-6 win.
