The Tewaaraton Award Committee announced the 25 finalists for the Tewaaraton award on Thursday evening, with Syracuse's Daniella Guyette, Molly Guzik and Coco Vandiver each earning a place on the list, announced during halftime of Thursday's game against Boston College.
Â
Syracuse's three nominees are tied for the second most of any school in the nation. The award annually honors the top male and female lacrosse players in the United States, with a selection committee comprised of collegiate coaches.
Â
Guyette is experiencing a career-year between the pipes, surrendering just 7.01 goals per game, tied for the second-best in the nation and the top mark in the ACC. She has logged 98 saves and a .488 save percentage while being named ACC Defensive Player of the Week twice this season. She was named the IWLCA National Co-Defensive Player of the Week after logging 11 saves and a .550 save percentage in the quadruple overtime win over Notre Dame last week. She was also named a Nike Midseason All-American.
Â
Guzik has been the offensive engine all season, leading the Orange with 46 points on 36 goals and 10 assists. She has scored in 14 of the Orange's 15 contests this season, including scoring at least three in six games. Guzik had a career-best performance against Northwestern, scoring six goals on nine shots to help lead the Orange to a 9-6 win over the Wildcats. Guzik was named USA Lacrosse Magazine's Division I Player of the Week for the performance. She was also named a Nike Midseason All-American.
Â
Vandiver, a senior defender, is the Orange's career leader in caused turnovers with 114, including 40 this season. She ranks 11th in the nation in caused turnovers per game at 2.67 this season. In addition to 40 caused turnovers, Vandiver has amassed 25 ground balls while serving as the leader of the defense. As a collective unit, the defense ranks fourth in the nation in goals-against average with foes averaging just 7.3 goals per game. She was also named a Nike Midseason All-American a couple of weeks ago.
Â
The list will be narrowed to five finalists in early May before a winner is announced on May 28 in Washington, D.C. at the Andrew Mellon Auditorium.
