SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse University women's ice hockey lost its home opener and game one of the series 4-0 against No. 6 Minnesota Duluth on Thursday night at Tennity Ice Pavilion.

The Orange (0-1-0) could not find a way to get to the back of the net through three periods of play. Freshman goaltender Ava Drabyk made 44 saves in her collegiate debut. Jackson Kinsler led the team with four shots.

The Bulldogs (3-0-0) were led by Ashley Messier who had two assists on the day while four others scored for Duluth. Ève Gascon had 33 saves on the evening.

How it Happened

Duluth went ahead early in 27 seconds of play on a goal from Caitlin Kraemer fed by Danielle Burgen and Messier.
Kraemer and Ava MacLeod earned an assist at 11:36 in the second period from a Thea Johansson power play goal.
In the second period, the Orange took their most chances with 15 shots on goal.
In the third period, Duluth's Josie St. Martin tacked on a goal assisted by Messier and Mary Kate O'Brien at the 5:03 mark.
The Bulldogs struck again late in the third with a power play goal by Rae Mayer on passes from Krista Parkkonen and Madison Burr.
Syracuse's Jessica Cheung led the team with four blocks on the night.
