ATLANTA – The Syracuse softball team (21-13, 2-10 ACC) is set to travel to face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (22-14, 7-5 ACC) in a three-game series from Friday, April 4 through Sunday, April 6.
Game one is scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m. on ACC Network Extra. Games two and three will air live on national television with Saturday's first pitch set for 6 p.m. and Sunday's slated for 1 p.m. Both contests will air on the ACC Network.
ORANGE UPDATE:
'Cuse enters the series against Georgia Tech with a 21-13 record after taking one of three games against North Carolina last weekend (March 28-30). The Orange opened the series with a 7-5 win in game one, highlighted by Kaimi Tulua's go-ahead two-run double in the top of the fourth inning. However, Syracuse dropped tight 11-6 and 10-9 decisions in games two and three, with both contests coming down to the final innings. In game two, North Carolina used a five-run top of the seventh to pull ahead, while a game-winning RBI single in the top of the 10th sealed the win in game three.
After spending the first month and a half of their season on the road, the Orange have played eight of their last nine games at home. Now, they will hit the road again for their next 11 contests. Syracuse is 2-5 in true road games this season, with wins at Duke (March 15) and Le Moyne (March 26).
Through 34 games, Madelyn Lopez has been the offensive leader for Syracuse, hitting .437 (45-for-103) with 22 runs, 21 RBIs, and two home runs. Tessa Galipeau (.390), Angie Ramos (.323), Jadyn Burney (.321), Kelly Breen (.317), and Gabby Lantier (.317) have also been key contributors, each hitting above .300 this season.
In the circle, Julianna Verni and Madison Knight have handled the majority of Syracuse's pitching workload, combining for 169.2 of the team's 227 innings. Verni has posted a 2.83 ERA in 19 appearances, while Knight holds a 3.54 ERA across 15 outings. The duo has combined for 148 strikeouts, with Knight's 66 strikeouts ranking eighth in the ACC and Verni's 65 strikeouts just behind her at ninth in the league.
SCOUTING THE YELLOW JACKETS:
Georgia Tech enters the series with a 22-14 record through 36 games, including a 7-5 mark in ACC play. The Yellow Jackets' conference victories have come over NC State (3), Pittsburgh (2), California (1), and Stanford (1). They are coming off a 1-0 win over Georgia Southern in a midweek matchup at home.
The Yellow Jackets have four players hitting above .300, led by Alyssa Willer's .373. Paige Vuladinovich (.366), Jayden Gailey (.353), and Gracyn Tucker (.330) are the other Georgia Tech hitters with averages above .300.
In the circle, Sophia Voyles leads the staff with 79.2 innings pitched and a 2.11 ERA. She has struck out 95 batters while allowing just 58 hits and 32 runs.
SERIES HISTORY AGAINST GEORGIA TECH:
Syracuse holds a 5-9 record in the lifetime series against Georgia Tech, but have faced challenges on the road, only winning two of the nine games it has played in Atlanta. The last time the Orange won on the road against the Yellow Jackets was on March 19, 2017.
'Cuse and Georgia Tech played a three-game series last season, with the Orange taking two of three from the Yellow Jackets by scores of 6-5 and 7-1 (6 inn.).
