CHARLOTTE -- Syracuse begins postseason play at the ACC Tournament in Charlotte on Wednesday, April 23 with a matchup against Stanford. The squads meet in the final quarterfinal of the day at 8 p.m.
Fans can watch the game on ACC Network and listen to the action on WJPZ 89.1FM in Syracuse. Live updates will also be available on social media (CuseWLax).
SETTING THE SCENE
The Orange finished the regular season with a 9-7 record. Syracuse is the No. 6 seed in the ACC Tournament after posting a 5-4 mark in conference play.
Stanford earned the No. 3 seed in the tournament, posting a 7-2 league record. The Cardinal enter Wednesday's game with a 13-4 overall mark.
ORANGE IN THE ACC TOURNAMENT
Syracuse is making its 11th appearance in the ACC Tournament. The Orange have an all-time record of 15-9 in ACC Tournament play and have advanced to the semifinals eight times. Syracuse won the 2015 ACC Championship, defeating North Carolina in OT in the title game.
SCOUTING THE CARDINAL
Stanford won four of its last five regular-season games, including a 19-4 victory in the final game of the regular season against California.
Aliya Polisky is Stanford's leader in points (62) and goals (51) this season. Ava Arceri is right behind with 57 points on 40 goals and 17 assists.
The Cardinal defense ranks as one of the best in the nation, allowing just 8.59 goals per game. Goalkeeper Lucy Pearson ranks 13th in the nation in goals-against average (9.31).
SERIES HISTORY
Syracuse and Stanford will meet for the seventh time overall and second this season. The Orange own a 5-1 advantage in the series.
The Cardinal visited the JMA Wireless Dome on March 7. Syracuse jumped out to an early lead and had a 4-1 advantage after the first quarter. Stanford fought back in the second quarter, scoring five-straight goals, and took an 8-7 lead into the locker room at intermission.
The Orange built a 12-9 lead in the third quarter, but again Stanford fought back and tied the game at 13-13 to force overtime.
Mileena Cotter scored the game winner for the Orange in the second overtime for a 14-13 Syracuse victory.
Emma Ward led the Orange with five points, including the assist on the game-winning goal.
