NEW HAVEN, Connecticut – No. 6/6 Syracuse had its four-game winning streak snapped in a 13-10 setback at No. 12/13 Yale on Wednesday, April 2 in its final non-conference game of the regular season.
Â
Ashlee Volpe scored a season-high four goals to lead the Orange offense. Emma Ward (3a) and Emma Muchnick (2g, 1a) had three points each.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Yale (8-3) never trailed in the game as it snapped its three-game losing streak. The Bulldogs scored the first two goals of the games, but Ward connected with Molly Guzik twice, including with five seconds remaining in the first quarter to tie the score at 4-4.
Â
Volpe scored the Orange's only goal of the second quarter as they trailed by two at halftime, 7-5. Yale struck first after halftime to extend its lead to three, but back-to-back goals by Muchnick and Caroline Trinkaus brought Syracuse (8-5) within one, 8-7, heading into the fourth quarter.
Â
The Bulldogs pushed the lead to 13-9 before Volpe converted on a free position to cut the deficit to three with 2:31 remaining but that was as close as Syracuse could get.
Â
UP NEXT
