
Anderson Sets 'Cuse Mile Record

Benne Anderson became the first Orange runner to run below 3:55 in the mile on day one of the David Hemery Valentine Invitational.
Anderson broke the previous school record – set by Olympian Justyn Knight in 2018 – by more than a second. He was the second-fastest collegian in the event, crossing the line in 3:54.12, which was fourth overall.
Behind Anderson, Ben Gabelman was close to the four-minute mark, crossing the line in 4:01.37. He was followed by Drew Zundell (4:06.31), Ruben Rojas Betanzos (4:07.98), Asher Danielson (4:09.09) and Solomon Holden-Betts (4:12.11). Zundell and Rojas Betanzos' times were new personal bests.
Sam Lawler set a new PR and narrowly missed a school record of his own in the 5,000-meter run. He finished in ninth among collegiate runners with a time of 13:35.53. Teammates Assaf Harari (13:45.53) and Connor Ackley (13:45.82) were the top-two finishers in their heat, both setting new PRs. Sam Ricchiuti (14:03.35) also set a career best and won his heat, followed by Ethan Wechsler in 14:33.73 in that same heat. Connell Alford (14:21.72), Gabriel Planty (14:24.90) and Omar Alsaidi (14:26.33) also raced.
Julian Franjieh crossed the line in 8:12.89 in the 3,000-meter run as well. The meet at Boston University continues on Saturday, with the women's events.
Across town at the Eagle Invitational hosted by Boston College, Emanuel Joseph started the day by winning the men's 60-meter hurdles (7.91 seconds). Isaiah Hayes (8.12 seconds) placed fourth with a new PR. David Peters took eighth, posting a better time (8.10 seconds) in the prelim round.
Trei Thorogood picked up a win in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.72 seconds. James Nmah (7.13 seconds) was 16th. Thorogood later came back and won the 200-meter dash in 20.94 seconds, for his second victory of the day. Elijah Mallard was fifth in 21.60 seconds.
Kitana Burgard (24.45 seconds) finished third in the 200, followed by Peyton Rollins with a personal-best,24.76, in seventh. Olivia Garner set a new PR in 25.24 seconds, taking 11th.
Garner added her second personal best of the day in the 60, placing sixth with a new career mark of 7.64 seconds. Burgard was the fastest collegiate runner in the prelims (7.52 seconds), but did not race in the final. Marissa Saunders was 17th in a personal-best time of 8.08 seconds.
Peyton Rollins took fourth in the women's 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.61 seconds. Madison Caesar (8.86 seconds) and Marissa Saunders (8.87 seconds), were 11th and 12th, respectively, while Taleea Buxton took 14th. Saunders' time was a career best as well.
In the 400-meter dashes, Elijah Mallard (47.76 seconds) led the way for the Orange men. The women saw Ceasar (59.50) and Shayla Ford (59.80) place 21st and 22nd.
The Orange wrapped the meet with the women's 3,000-meter run. Caroline Kirby led the way in 9:58.49, followed by Lauren Augustyn (10:05.65) and Leah Futey (10:23.53).
Action continues Saturday in Boston.
