LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Syracuse University field hockey dropped a 3-2 Atlantic Coast Conference decision to Louisville Saturday afternoon at Trager Stadium.

Ninth-ranked Syracuse (11-5, 3-5 ACC) got goals from Danique Schuurman and Pati Strunk in the loss. Schuurman's third-quarter tally was assisted by Liz Stange and Strunk, while Strunk's fourth-quarter goal came off an assist from Bo van Kempen. Jessie Eiselin made one save in 30 minutes of action before Tane King entered and made one save over the final 23:32.

Louisville (8-9, 2-6 ACC) got goals from three different players, starting with Aubreigh Uba's penalty stroke conversion in the second quarter. Rylie Wollerton added the Cardinals' second goal with an assist from Trijntje Herfkens, and Tyler Everslage capped the scoring with an unassisted goal in the fourth quarter. Emily Young went the distance in net, making three saves in 60 minutes of work. Herfkens also contributed an assist on Wollerton's goal.

How it Happened

The Orange controlled possession early and earned a penalty corner in the sixth minute, but couldn't convert the opportunity in a scoreless first quarter.
Louisville broke through in the 15th minute when the Cardinals were awarded a penalty corner. Uba stepped up and converted the penalty stroke to give the home team a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
The Cardinals extended their advantage in the 31st minute when Wollerton found the back of the net off a feed from Herfkens to make it 2-0.
Syracuse cut into the deficit in the 42nd minute on a penalty corner. Strunk inserted to Stange, who set up Schuurman's fifth goal of the season, pulling the Orange within one at 2-1.
Everslage pushed Louisville's lead back to two goals with a strike in the 47th minute, giving the Cardinals a 3-1 advantage.
The Orange refused to go quietly, answering back in the 52nd minute when Strunk scored her second goal of the year. Van Kempen picked up the assist on the play to make it 3-2.
Syracuse pulled its goalkeeper for an extra attacker in the final minutes and generated several scoring chances, but couldn't find the equalizer as Louisville held on for the victory.

Syracuse remains in Louisville for the 2025 ACC Field Hockey Tournament.
Action kicks off Tuesday at Trager Stadium as the sixth-seeded Orange draw third-seeded Wake Forest for a 6 p.m. game.
