
Cuse Comes Out on Top in a Battle Against Stonehill

The Syracuse University women's ice hockey team got its first win of the season, defeating Stonehill College, 3-2, Friday night at Bridgewater Ice Arena.
Syracuse (1-2-0) scored its first goals of the season with three different scorers: Nea Tervonen, Jackson Kinsler, and Emma Gnade. Stella Costabile and Peyton Armstrong both picked up an assist for the Orange. Bella Gould had her first start of the year in the net and held down the goal for the Orange to collect the win with 24 saves.
Stonehill (0-1-0) could not match the Syracuse offense even with efforts by Gracie Sacca, Madison Achtyl and Lily Geist collecting nearly half of the Skyhawks shots. Goals came from Sacca and Reagan Whynot to keep Stonehill in the game. Netminder Eve Stone gathered 39 saves in total for the night.

- Stonehill struck first 11 seconds into the game with a goal by Sacca after passes from Achtyl and Geist.
- Syracuse answered a few minutes later at the 3:53 mark with a Tervonen score on an assist from Costabile to even it up in the first.
- Not even a minute into the second quarter Kinsler retaliated and found the back of the net after a saved shot to give Cuse the lead.
- The Orange would tally another in the second at the 7:11 mark with Gnade's first career goal on a feed from Peyton Armstrong.
- The Skyhawks had an answer and Whynot lit the light once more 16:44 into the second period for Stonehill.
- The Orange had 42 shots on goal and had at least 10 shots each period. The Orange out-shot Stonehill 42-26.
