
Orange Return to Track at Penn State and Cornell

The Syracuse track and field teams started the new year at a pair of meets on Saturday, competing at the Nittany Lion Challenge at Penn State and the Cornell Upstate Challenge.
At Penn State, the Orange took the top-two spots in each 60-meter hurdles event. Taleea Buxton (8.471) and Peyton Rollins (8.748) were neck-and-neck for first and second place, respectively in the women's event. Rollins' time was a new personal best. Additionally, Madison Ceasar (8.82) was sixth, and Marissa Saunders (8.98) placed eighth, giving Syracuse four of the eight finalists in the event. Kirstyn Schechter (9.36) and Olivia Etienvre (9.59) also raced for 'Cuse.
Syracuse alum Jaheem Hayles won the men's 60-meter hurdles while competing unattached with a time of 7.84 seconds. Emanuel Joseph (7.95) was right behind in second. David Peters (8.11) was fourth. Isaiah Hayes (8.62) finished 11th.
Trei Thorogood was the runner-up in the 60-meter dash, crossing the line in 6.70 seconds.
In the women's 60, Olivia Garner led the way with a time of 7.67 seconds in 10th place. Rollins (7.82) finished 17th. Garner would go on to also race in the 200-meter dash, where she finished 11th in 25.48 seconds.
Shayla Ford was seventh in the 400-meter dash, posting a time of 58.82 seconds, a new personal best for her. Ceasar (1:00.25) was 12th. Elijah Mallard was fourth in the men's event, with a time of 48.72 seconds, he was followed in 13th by Xayvion Perkins (50.80).
James Nmah wrapped up the individual portion of the afternoon in the men's 200, finishing in 22.25 seconds, which was good for eighth.
At Cornell, Lizzie Bigelow opened the women's action with a fourth-place finish in the mile, crossing the line in 5:27.05. She was followed three spots behind by Maya Dubrovsky (5:40.38). Lucy Zombek (5:58.10) and Madeline Lutz (6:16.45) were 14th and 15th, respectively, and Kayla Harding (6:40.26) was 17th.
Mia Hernandez took fourth in the women's 500-meter run, finishing in 1:23.92. Alexander Segarra placed fifth in the men's race with a time of 1:12.47.
Blake Parker led the way in the 1,000-meter run, crossing the line in 3:18.72 to finish 10th. Emily Rutkowski was one spot behind with a time of 3:18.81.
Syracuse is back in action next weekend at the Dr. Sander Scorcher in New York City.
