Ebel Earns Academic All-America Distinction
7/16/2024 12:09:00 PM | Women's Rowing, Academics
Junior Charlotte Ebel is Syracuse's first women's rowing Academic All-American since 1997. She joins Tammy Zettler '97 as the only two rowers to earn the distinction. Ebel earned At-Large Academic All-America Second Team honors, as selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC). The At-Large category includes 12 women's sports. Fifty women were chosen for the Academic All-America first, second and third teams, which recognizes their outstanding performance in the classroom and in their respective sport.
Â
Ebel, a triple major in women and gender studies, public relations and German language, literature and culture, is a two-time CRCA Scholar-Athlete and a two-time All-ACC Academic Team honoree. Ebel was selected as a 2024-25 Syracuse University Remembrance Scholar, a University honor that was founded as a tribute to — and means of remembering — the students studying in London and Florence through Syracuse University who were killed in the Dec. 21, 1988, bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland. Those students were among the 270 people who perished in the bombing.Â
Â
On the water, Ebel rowed three-seat in the second varsity eight that won the ACC Championship in a course record of 6:19.406, and the Orange won the ACC Championship for the first time in program history. The Urbana, Ill. native rowed three-seat for the second varsity eight that placed 13th at the NCAA Championship. She joined the Orange women's rowing program in 2021-22 after competing in cross country/track & field in high school.
