Athletics administrator Torrey Ball ‘11, MS’12 is returned to his alma mater as the deputy athletics director for business development in July of 2023. An Orange football defensive end from 2009 through 2011, Ball brings intercollegiate athletics marketing and external leadership experience from multiple Power Five schools, including his most recent role as senior associate athletics director of external operations at the University of Virginia, to his new role at Syracuse.
At Syracuse, Ball is responsible for the identification of business and revenue opportunities for athletics, including maximizing all current revenue streams and enhancing overall revenue generation. He will oversee the Orange athletics marketing and trademark licensing departments and will be the primary liaison with Syracuse Learfield Sports Properties.
In his role at Virginia, Ball supervised external units including broadcast production, communications, creative services, marketing/fan experience, ticketing and video production, and served as the lead administrator in the Cavaliers partnership with multimedia rights partner Virginia Sports Properties. He was responsible for strategic direction, leadership and coordination of all revenue generation initiatives, including ticket sales, ACC Network production and concession sales through Aramark. Before joining the Virginia athletics staff in July 2021, Ball was an assistant athletics director for marketing and fan engagement at Marquette for four years. As the chief marketing officer for the Golden Eagles, Ball supervised multiple external units, including marketing and fan engagement, ticketing, and the spirit program.
Prior to Marquette, Ball worked at the University of Nebraska as the assistant director of fan experience for two years before being promoted to director of marketing and student engagement in 2016.
The Athens, Ga., native started his athletics marketing career as a marketing assistant at Syracuse in 2012-13 and at the University of Oregon in 2013-14. He earned a bachelor’s degree in communication and rhetorical studies at Syracuse in 2011 and an MS in new media management in 2012. He and his wife, Courtney, have a son, Langston.
