Galloway, White, 1983 Team Named to Upstate Hall

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Upstate Lacrosse Hall of Fame has named its 2026 inductees, which features plenty of former Syracuse University men's lacrosse players.
John Galloway, Joel White, and the entire 1983 Syracuse University Men's Lacrosse team were announced on Friday as part of the next group to be inducted into the Upstate Lacrosse Hall of Fame.
A Syracuse native and West Genesee High School graduate, Galloway backed the Orange to a pair of national championships in 2008 and 2009. He graduated as the all-time wins leader at both Syracuse and in the NCAA with 59 and a career record of 59-8. When he graduated, Galloway was the only goalie in NCAA history to win a national championship as both a freshman and a sophomore. Just the second-ever goalie to be named as a Tewaaraton finalist on the men's side, Galloway won the Ensign C. Markland Kelly Jr. Award twice as the nation's best goalkeeper. He was also a two-time USILA First Team All-American. Off the field, Galloway was a two-time Academic All-American and a Senior CLASS Award Finalist.
One of the best longstick midfielders in program history, anchoring some of the best defenses in the country, White graduated as the program's all-time ground balls leader for a defensive player with 283, tallying 28 games with at least five ground balls. A three-time All-American from Cortland, New York, White was a team captain twice for the Orange while leading the team to national championships in 2008 and 2009. In his junior season, White became the first defensive specialist to win the Lt. Donald C. MacLaughlin Jr. Award as the nation's most outstanding midfielder. Feared in transition as well, White still holds the program mark for most career points by a defensive player with 28, backed by 18 goals, which was the most by a defensive player until 2026.
Laying the championship groundwork for the Orange teams to come, the 1983 team won the program's first NCAA National Championship, beating long-time rival Johns Hopkins 17-16 in the championship game. The Orange went 14-1 that season, with the lone blemish a 9-6 setback on the road at Army West Point. Tim Nelson led that Orange squad with 83 points on 27 goals and 56 assists. The 1983 team boasted three USILA First-Team All-Americans, including Nelson, Brad Kotz, and Jeff McCormick. Legendary head coach Roy Simmons Jr. coached nine All-Americans that season. Accounting for two seven-game winning streaks that season, the team was limited to single digit goals just once, the '83 team racked up at least 15 goals 11 times in 15 games.
The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held at Drumlins Country Club on Sunday, November 8, 2026. Reception begins at 1 p.m., dinner is at 2 p.m., and inductions follow at 3 p.m. Tickets for the event will go on sale in October
