A dynamic leader, Kirsten Elleby joined the athletics department staff as deputy athletics director and senior woman administrator in March 2022. Elleby came to Syracuse after six years as associate athletics director for student-athlete enrichment and senior woman administrator at the University of New Orleans. She also held athletics administrative roles at Wake Forest University, and Coppin State University.
At Syracuse, Elleby serves as the liaison to the University’s Title IX Office and Community Standards office, oversees gender equity initiatives and has numerous specific sport oversight responsibilities, including women’s basketball, women’s soccer, softball and volleyball.  She represents Syracuse Athletics with her fellow ACC SWA’s at the conference level, and serves on several conference committees, including the ACC Women’s Basketball Committee, ACC Field Hockey Committee, ACC Women’s Tennis Committee, and the ACC Infractions & Sportsmanship Review Committee. Â
At the University of New Orleans, Elleby served on the executive leadership team and was responsible for the management and advancement of academics, NCAA compliance, student-athlete development, community outreach, and sports medicine. As SWA, she was a key decision-maker involved within the department and was responsible for managing student-athlete well-being, gender equity and Title IX issues. She served on the Southland Conference awards committee and was the Advisory Council liaison to the conference SAAC and the women’s volleyball head coaches.Â
Elleby was the Athletics Diversity and Inclusion Designee (ADID) in which she communicated information around inclusive programs, emerging diversity issues and other equity initiatives. In addition, she served as the sport administrator for many programs during her tenure, including women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country and track and field, volleyball, beach volleyball, men’s and women’s tennis, and was the academic counselor for the Privateers men’s basketball team.  Elleby chaired several administrative groups, including the Sport Administrator Council and the Athletics CARE Team, which focused on identifying and supporting student-athletes who may need mental health and sport psychology resources. Elleby served on the university’s Athletic Advisory Council, was the advisor for SAAC, and served as a Deputy Title IX coordinator for the University.Â
Before joining the Privateers, Elleby served in various student services capacities at Wake Forest and Coppin State. In nine years in Winston-Salem, Elleby served as the assistant athletics director for compliance and student-athlete support at Wake Forest. Elleby managed the compliance department and developed the Woman2Woman Mentorship Program for women student-athletes, as well as served as sport administrator for the Demon Deacon spirit program.Â
Prior to her stint at Wake Forest, Elleby worked at Coppin State University an HBCU in the MEAC from August 2004 through December 2006, serving in a number of athletic administrative roles including administration, academic support, compliance and student-athlete welfare. She also coordinated the life skills program and served as the advisor for the Coppin State SAAC.
A member of a military family which moved often while growing up, Elleby now considers Baltimore, Maryland as home. Elleby completed her B.A. in economics from Spelman College and her M.S.Ed. in sports management from Old Dominion University. Elleby is a graduate of the prestigious NCAA Dr. Charles Whitcomb Leadership Institute. Â She is also a member of National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), Minority Opportunities Athletic Association (MOAA), Women Leaders in College Sports and completed the NACWAA/HERS Institute for Administrative Advancement program. Â Elleby is a member of Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society.
Elleby resides in Jamesville with her daughter, Angely.
