The Orange and Mustangs have met three times previously and each time as members of the ACC. SMU owns a 2-1 series edge, with both wins coming during the 2024-25 season.
Syracuse captured this year's SMU regular-season pairing, 79-78, on Feb. 14. The Orange rallied from a 12-point, second-half deficit to claim the triumph. Nate Kingz scored on a layup with two seconds left to secure the win. Donnie Freeman had 18 points and Naithan George posted 16 points and six assists.
The winner of Tuesday's tilt will advance to the next round and face sixth-seeded Louisville on Wednesday, March 11, at 2:30 p.m. ET.

The Orange were edged by Pittsburgh, 71-69 in overtime, in the regular-season finale on Saturday. Naithan George had a season-high 26 points and Donnie Freeman contributed 18 points and 13 rebounds.
George has averaged 21.0 points per game in two March contests. Freeman has posted back-to-back double-doubles and leads the Orange in scoring (17.0 ppg.) and rebounding (7.4) averages. Nate Kingz has produced a 14.6 scoring average over the last seven contests.
William Kyle ranks tied for fifth in blocks (80) an tied for sixth in blocked-shot average (2.58) among Division I players. He leads the ACC in both categories. The Orange rank third nationally in blocks per game (6.0).
SMU Scouting Report
The Mustangs lost at Florida State on Saturday, 91-78. Boopie Miller had 32 points.
Miller leads the ACC in minutes played ((35.05) and steals (2.32) averages, is second in assist average (6.6) and ranks fifth in scoring average (19.4 ppg.). Jason Pierre Jr. is averaging 17.5 points per contest. Samet Yigitoglu, a 7-2 center, averages a squad-best 7.8 rebounds.
