Matt Wietlispach joined the Syracuse Athletics staff as the assistant strength coach for women’s basketball on July 10, 2023. Wietlispach came to The Hill from Niagara University where he was the head strength and conditioning coach since 2016.
While at Niagara, Wietlispach developed winter and summer programs for over 300 student athletes each season while creating team-specific programs for Niagara’s 18 sports. He developed mobility programs for specific athletes with limitations, asymmetry, flexibility, and immobility and monitored progression for each specific athlete through testing strength, body fat and weight.
In January 2018 he began BurnFatBeFit as the sole owner and fitness coach where he trained over 100 clients and helped them lose over a combined 10,000 pounds. He worked closely with his clients on mindset, behavior, nutrition, exercise, and accountability.
Prior to Niagara, Wietlispach was an account executive for CoachMePlus where he closed six Division I athletic departments and four professional sports organizations. He created sales presentations for meetings with general managers, head coaches and medical staff.
From 2012-14 he was a strength and conditioning coach at Erie Community College while also serving as an assistant baseball coach. Prior to that he held a similar position at Parkland College.
Wietlispach began his career as a personal trainer at Bally Total Fitness in April 2011.
He earned his associate degree in science from Elgin Community College in Elgin, Ill., in 2008 where he was a first team all-conference and all-league selection. Elgin went 55-19 over his two seasons with the Spartans while Wietlispach posted a .358 batting average with 11 doubles and 25 RBI.
A 2010 Niagara graduate with a bachelor’s degree in sport management, he was an All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Second Team selection and was awarded the Taps Gallagher Sportsmanship Award for the Purple Eagles.
