Orange in Top 15 for ACC/Big Ten Challenge

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Syracuse University field hockey heads for New Jersey with the No. 12 ranking as the Orange get set for the ACC/Big Ten Challenge this weekend. The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced its first poll of the regular season Tuesday morning.
Syracuse (2-0) dropped three spots this week, sliding back to No. 12 with 107 points. Northwestern remained at the top with 220 points and all 11 first-place votes. Princeton moved up to No. 2 with 197 points with Harvard up to third with 188 points. Iowa jumped seven spots to fourth with 184 while Virginia held at fifth with 163 points.
Six of the nine ACC programs were ranked in the top 20 this week: No. 5 Virginia, No. 6 Duke, No. 7 Wake Forest, No. 10 North Carolina, No. 12 Syracuse, and No. 15 Louisville.
In addition to the five ACC opponents, No. 3 Harvard and No. 20 Rutgers were inside the top 20 this week. Rutgers picked up 11 points, sliding back three spots from 17th in the preseason poll.
The Orange head for Piscataway, New Jersey for their second go 'round in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Syracuse repeats crossover opponents this year, leading off with Ohio State on Friday at 3 p.m. followed by No. 20 Rutgers on Sunday at 2 p.m. Both games air on BTN+ live from the Bauer Complex at Rutgers.
