Jovie Weaver Converts Second Game-Winner

DEDHAM, Mass. – It was a back-and-forth game at Dedham Field Sunday afternoon as No. 9 Syracuse University field hockey improved to 2-0 on the young season, rallying past Northeastern for a 3-2 victory.

Syracuse (2-0) got the scoring started just 2:51 into the match on a goal from Taylor Bigbie, assisted by Ally Snyder. Northeastern battled back in the third quarter to take a 2-1 lead before Hattie Madden (1g, 1a) and Jovie Weaver struck in the fourth quarter to secure the comeback win. Jessie Eiselin made two saves in goal for the Orange in the first half, while Tane King turned aside four shots in the second half to close it out.

Northeastern (0-2) got its goals from Alex Mega and Camille Armaganian, with Maggie Lundy picking up an assist on Mega's tally. Aiko Price made five saves in 45 minutes of work while Ibby Welldon stopped three shots in a 15-minute stint between the pipes for the Huskies.

How it Happened

Syracuse struck early, needing less than three minutes to find the back of the cage as Bigbie converted off a feed from Snyder on the baseline to put the Orange up 1-0.
The first half was otherwise a defensive battle, with Eiselin turning away shots from Mega and Lucy Walton to preserve the shutout through the opening 30 minutes.
Tane King took over in goal for Syracuse to begin the third quarter as Northeastern found its footing, evening the score in the 34th minute when Mega buried a feed from Lundy to make it 1-1.
Less than three minutes later, the Huskies flipped the script entirely as Armaganian converted a penalty stroke to give Northeastern its first lead of the afternoon at 2-1.
Syracuse's offense answered in a hurry in the fourth quarter. In the 41st minute, Madden knotted the score back up at 2-2 off an assist from Aubrey Turner, again from the baseline.
Less than a minute later, Weaver put the Orange back on top for good, redirecting a feed from Madden into the cage for the 3-2 advantage.
Northeastern pushed hard in the closing minutes, stringing together a flurry of penalty corners in the final quarter, but King stood tall in net, turning away shots from Phoebe Hall and Camille Armaganian down the stretch to seal the win.
