THE GAME
- Nothing better than coming home after a long trip.
- Syracuse returns to the JMA Wireless Dome for the first time since February 13, ending a 37-day, six-game road swing. The Orange went 4-2 across those six games, with the lone setbacks coming against two teams now ranked in the top five of the polls.
- The Orange are on a four-game winning streak this month, picking up three top-20 wins along the way while jumping the 'Cuse RPI to number two in the country.
- Syracuse and Georgetown meet for the first time since the 2021 postseason in a neutral-site game in College Park, Maryland. The Hoyas have not been to the Dome in well over a decade since Syracuse left the BIG EAST for the ACC.
- The Orange are 17-6 all-time against Georgetown in a series dating back to 1995 with Syracuse holding a 6-2 record at home against the Hoyas.
- Sunday's game will be the first meeting between Syracuse head coach Gary Gait and Georgetown head coach Kevin Warne.
- Syracuse returns to the JMA Wireless Dome with a 7-2 overall record courtesy of a 13-12 win over Denver on Monday night in the Mile High City. The Orange used an 8-2 run late in the second and the entire third quarter to separate from the Pioneers. The Orange needed every goal in that run as the Pios scored five of the game's final six goals for a 13-12 Orange win.
- Georgetown battled through a three-game skid, also against teams now inside the top 10, picking up wins in their last two outings, including a 14-7 win at Loyola Maryland Tuesday night. The Hoyas are road-tested as well, playing their fifth road game of the year in seven contests.
- Sunday's matinee is slated for a 1 p.m. start on ACC Network Extra. Adam Gotkin and Syracuse All-American Stephen Rehfuss will have the call with Maggie Robinson reporting from the sidelines. The game will also air on the Syracuse Sports Network with Hudson Ridley and Kyle Fetterly on the call for TK99/105 in Syracuse, through Cuse.com, The Varsity App, and the TuneIn app.Â
- Syracuse student-radio station WAER will be on hand as well for the game.
MILES TO GO BEFORE I SLEEP
- The woods may be lovely, dark, and deep, but Syracuse has been too busy travelling to take notice lately.
- Syracuse just completed its much-discussed six-game road swing, tied for the second-longest run of regular season road games in program history.
- The Orange went 4-2 in that span, the second-best record in a road swing of at least six games in the program's 110 years of history. Only the 1969 team had a better record, going 7-0 on a seven-game stretch to open that season. The '69 Orange bested Ohio Wesleyan, Denison, Ohio State, Kenyon, Penn State, Clarkson, and Hofstra all away from home.Â
- Syracuse had a six-game road stretch to open 1972 as well, going 3-3 while the 1940 team went 2-4 on a Mid-Atlantic tour through Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and Maryland.
- All told in this year's six-game road swing, the Orange covered 5,279 miles, including the Colorado trip to round things out, calculating from the JMA Wireless Dome to opposing stadiums (and from Princeton to Philadelphia and Colorado Springs to Denver from the two two-game weeks).
KEEPING THE DOOR SHUT
- The Syracuse defense combined with a potent offense and a sharp faceoff has helped the Orange shut the door on opposing teams this season.
- Syracuse has kept opponents off the board for at least 15 minutes on five separate occasions so far this year, with the longest as a 23 minute, 4 second drought for Saint Joseph's in the second game of the year.
- Of those five droughts, three have come at the end of games. Erasing a four-goal, third-quarter deficit, Syracuse kept Penn off the board for the final 19:50 of the game. The final Quaker goal came with 4:14 left in the third quarter.
- The Orange defense has allowed just 18 goals in the fourth quarter of games this season, while scoring 30 times across the fourth quarter and into overtime.
- Syracuse has allowed 18 goals in the fourth quarter this year, with some grace for the five surrendered at Denver, three of which came during a two-minute non-releasable penalty at the end of a six-game road trip and second game at elevation. Notre Dame is first in fourth quarter goals allowed with 11 in just six games. North Carolina has given up 19, Virginia 17, and Duke with 16 given up in the final frame.
A WIN ON SUNDAY WOULD...
- See the Orange extend their winning streak to five straight after topping No. 19 Penn, No. 11 Johns Hopkins Air Force, and #14 Denver. It would be the longest run of wins since six straight in the heart of 2025 season.
- Improve Syracuse to 18-6 all-time against Georgetown and 7-2 when playing in the Salt City.
- Bump Syracuse's home record to 4-0 on the season and would be the fourth-straight home win this season.
- Mark the sixth top-20 win this year for the Orange (#16 Boston University, #1 Maryland, #19 Penn, #11 Hopkins, #14 Denver)
- Be the 969th win in program history, the second-most all-time among Division I programs.
13-12
- There have been nearly 1,400 Syracuse men's lacrosse games since the program first began in 1916.
- After Monday's 13-12 win at Denver, no final score has happened more in those 1,373 games.
- Monday's victory was the 19th time Syracuse has won a game by a 13-12 count, breaking a deadlock with 18 games with a 9-8 Syracuse win.
- Syracuse's first 13-12 win came way back on May 18, 1955 at home against longtime rival Cornell.
- Not only is winning one-goal games on the road impressive, but collecting 13 wins by a 13-12 final score on the road is more impressive. The 13-12 final score on the road is the most common road winning score for Syracuse in 690 games away from home (including neutral-site games).
