Former Orange Set to Compete in Pan-Am Championship

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Twelve former Syracuse University men's lacrosse standouts will represent three national teams, Canada, the Haudenosaunee Nationals and Jamaica, compete in the inaugural Pan-American Men's Lacrosse Championship, set for Aug. 16-23 in Kingston, Jamaica.

The nine-team tournament serves as a continental qualifier for the 2027 World Lacrosse Men's Championship in Japan, with the top five finishers punching their tickets to next year's world championship field. Syracuse is the most-represented program in the entire event ahead of UAlbany, Jacksonville, Notre Dame and Ohio State.

Competition is split into two pools. Pool A features Argentina, Canada, the Haudenosaunee Nationals, Mexico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, while Pool B includes the United States, Colombia, Jamaica and Puerto Rico.

Six former Orange will represent Team Canada:

Four former Orange will represent the Haudenosaunee Nationals:

Jerry Staats (D), 2019-2021
Brett Bucktooth (AC), 2003-2006
Casey Powell (AC) 1995-1998

Two former Orange will represent Team Jamaica:

Nate McPeak (G), 2018-2022
Dante Bowen (SSDM), 2026

The tournament marks the first time World Lacrosse has used continental qualifiers to help set the field for its world championship, which will expand to 16 teams in 2027. Eleven nations have already secured spots, including host Japan and qualifiers from the European and Asia-Pacific championships. The Pan-American event will determine the final five entrants.
