
2 School Records and Sub-4 Minute Mile Kickoff Weekend

Two new school records and a sub-four minute mile headlined the first day of a busy weekend for the Syracuse track and field teams.
Drew Zundell ran a time of 3:59.04 in the mile at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational to become Syracuse's latest sub-four minute miler, a club that now has double-digit Syracuse student-athletes. Zundell is the third West Virginian to complete the feat, with former Orange head coach Chris Fox being one of the other two. Zundell took 11th overall, where he was followed by Charles Guerrera, who crossed the line in a career best time of 4:05.57.
Peter Walsdorf set a new school record in the indoor 5,000-meter run at Boston. He placed third overall in the event, crossing the line in 13:32.20, besting Perry Mackinnon's 2024 mark. Teammate Ben Gabelman (13:38.66) was eighth, followed by Assaf Harari (13:39.10) in 10th, both setting new personal bests in the process. Connor Ackley (13:50.69) finished 31st, with Sam Ricchiuti (13:57.49) and Louis Small (13:59.62) placing 50th and 54th, respectively, each with a PR. Connell Alford set a new PR (14:03.55) as well, Omar Alsaidi (14:14.93), Julian Franjieh (14:15.41) and Ruben Rojas Betanzos' PR time of 14:17.56 rounded out the field.
Also in Boston, Tristan Thurneysen ran to a time of 8:18.70 in the 3,000-meter run.
Meanwhile at Clemson's Tiger Paw Invitational, Elijah Mallard broke his own school record in the 400-meter dash for the fourth time this season, finishing in 46.23 seconds.
Taleea Buxton set a new career-best time of 8.27 seconds, finishing 16th in the 60-meter hurdles. Peyton Rollins (8.45 seconds) and Tia Outlaw (8.50 seconds) also advanced to the semifinals, finishing 22nd and 24th.
Jamir Brown narrowly missed the finals in the 60-meter hurdles, placing ninth (0.02 seconds out of a finals spot. He was sixth among collegians.
Indie Wallace-Persaud set a new personal best in the 60-meter dash, crossing the line in 7.41 seconds, to take 22nd.
Action at both meets continues on Saturday.
