THE GAME
- The final game of a season-opening three-game home stand has arrived for the Orange and it's an early season heavyweight bout as No. 2 Syracuse hosts No. 1 Maryland Friday night at 6 p.m.
- Friday's game is the second of an Orange lacrosse doubleheader behind the No. 13 Syracuse women's team hosting No. 1 North Carolina on Friday at 2:30 p.m. at the JMA Wireless Dome. It marks the first time both Syracuse men's and women's lacrosse teams host their respective number one ranked teams in program histories.
- The men's game is the first time a second-ranked Syracuse team hosts a number one team and is the first time a No. 2 Orange team takes on a number one team since the 2001 National Championship game between No. 2 Syracuse and No. 1 Princeton, a 10-9 overtime loss for the Orange.
- Syracuse last hosted a No. 1 vs. No. 2 game on February 27, 2009 between the No. 1 Orange and second-ranked Virginia. Syracuse hosted a One vs. One game on March 4, 2011 as between the Orange and Cavaliers were tied for first in the preseason USILA Coaches Poll that season.
- Friday's game is the first televised game for Syracuse this season with ACC Network on hand for the game with a veteran crew on the call. Anish Shroff '04 will be joined in the booth by Syracuse All-American midfielder Paul Carcaterra and Johns Hopkins All-American goalkeeper Quint Kessenich. An All-ACC midfielder at Virginia, Dana Boyle will handle reporting duties on the sideline.
- Syracuse is coming off a full-team effort and a 20-2 win over Saint Joseph's last weekend, holding the Hawks scoreless for three separate blocks of at least 18 minutes. Joey Spallina led the way with nine points on four goals and five assists. Jimmy McCool made 10 saves in his second win of the year as both he and Spallina swept ACC Player of the Week honors.
- Â Friday is the team's annual 15 For Life Game, honoring the life and legacy of Syracuse All-American Rob Kavovit. On March 16, 2021, Rob Kavovit took his own life while suffering from silent depression. The Kavovit Family funneled their grief into opening the dialogue around depression and mental matters. 15 For Life's mission is to shed the shame around needing help and normalizing the conversation around mental health by creating awareness so that their loss may help others.
- Tim Leonard and Kyle Fetterly will have the radio call for the Syracuse Sports Network on TK99/105 this week. Fans can also catch radio broadcasts on Cuse.com, The Varsity App, and TuneIn App, as well as Syracuse University student-radio station WAER.
WEEKLY HONORS
- After backing Syracuse to a 2-0 start with a 20-2 win over Saint Joseph's last weekend, the Orange swept the second week of ACC honors.
- Joey Spallina went for nine points on four goals and five assists, canning four of his five shots on goal en route to ACC Offensive Player of the Week honors, the sixth of his career.
- Jimmy McCool made 83.3 percent of his saves, stopping 10 of the 12 Hawks' shots on goal, doing so in just 45 minutes of work and picking up ACC Defensive Player of the Week plaudits, the third of his career.
- Syracuse has collected both ACC Defensive Players of the Week in the young season as John Mullen was tabbed as last week's honoree.
THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE DOME...
- As the saying goes, there's no place like home - doubly true when it's the JMA Wireless Dome.
- Syracuse opens the 2026 seasons with a three-game home stretch. In 2025, Syracuse started the season with three home games, resulting in three straight home wins. Already the Orange are off and running at home with a 2-0 record.
- Last year, the Orange only faced one ranked opponent in the three-game home streak. This season the Orange started their season with a 13-6 win over #16/#17 Boston University, a 20-2 win against a Saint Joseph's team receiving votes, and then face #1/#1 Maryland this Friday night.
- The Orange will be gone from the Dome for six straight games, hitting five states - Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Colorado - before returning on March 22 against the Georgetown Hoyas.
- Syracuse is 31-3 in season openers at home since the Dome opened.
- 'Cuse is 280-56 all-time in the JMA Dome since the 1981 season after taking down Saint Joseph's last weekend.
- Syracuse is 26-13 in the Dome under head coach Gary Gait, including an 18-4 record since 2024, going 8-2 in both 2024 and 2025.
- Postseason play returned to the Dome for the second year in a row. Winning both NCAA home Tournament games in the past two years, the Orange took down #12/#15 Towson in 2024 and #12/#13 Harvard in 2025.
- The eight home wins in each of the last two seasons are the most since the Orange went 8-1 at the Dome during the 2016 campaign. The eight home wins are the second-most for the Orange since joining the ACC for the 2014 campaign, one shy of the 9-0 mark in 2015.
A WIN ON FRIDAY WOULD...
- Improve Syracuse to 3-0 start for a fourth-straight season dating back to 2023.
- Snap an eight-game slide against Maryland dating back to an 11-6 win on May 16, 2009 in Hempstead.
- Mark the third home win for Syracuse against Maryland: 1983 and 1927 the previous such marks.
- Snap a three-game slide against top-ranked teams and be Syracuse's first win over a number one ranked opponent since an 11-10 win at Notre Dame in 2017.
- Be the 11th win since 1983 for Syracuse against a top-ranked opponent.
- See the Orange win their 281st win in the JMA Wireless Dome.
- Be the 964th win in program history, the second-most all-time among Division I programs.
