COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – After picking up another top 15 win on the road and improving to 6-0 for the first time since 2017, Syracuse University field hockey moved up one spot in this week's Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll. The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) released its poll Tuesday morning.
Syracuse (6-0) moved up one spot to number four, collecting 186 points. The Orange are just 11 points behind Sunday's foe, Virginia, in third.
Northwestern remained at the top of the chart with 216 points and seven first place votes. North Carolina was second again with 213 points and the remaining four first-place selections. Virginia was third with 197 points while Syracuse slotted fourth with its 186. Harvard rounded out the top five with 160 points.
Across the 2025 season, Syracuse will face nearly half of the teams ranked in the September 16 poll: No. 2 North Carolina, No. 3 Virginia, No. 7 Duke, No. 9 Princeton, No. 13 Boston College, No. 14 Ohio State, No. 16 Penn State, No. 17 Rutgers, No. 20 Wake Forest.
A pair of top 20 battles await the Orange as they open a five-game home stand this weekend with No. 20 Wake Forest (Friday, 5 p.m.) and Virginia (Sunday, noon). Playing on ACC Network Extra for both games this weekend, Syracuse returns to J.S. Coyne Stadium for the first time since Aug. 31. The Orange recently completed a four-game road swing, going 4-0 in that span including three top-20 wins.
