Senior Mia Klammer scored a dramatic goal to help Syracuse (3-1-1) rally for a 1-1 tie with Quinnipiac (0-2-1) on Thursday afternoon in Hamden, Conn.Â
Klammer's tally, her fourth of the season, came at the 77:22 mark of the contest and knotted the score.
HOW THE GAME WAS DECIDED:
After 76 minutes of scoreless play, the outcome of the match was ultimately determined during a one-minute span. The host Bobcats struck first when Madison Alves found the net off an assist from Corey Anderson at 76:25.Â
The Orange went right back to work. Graduate student Ashley Rauch earned a free kick and her drive found a leaping Klammer, who tallied the equalizer.
TIGHTLY PLAYED FIRST HALF ENDS SCORELESS
Quinnipiac outshot the Orange, 6-4, over the first 45 minutes of play but there were few scoring chances. Syracuse senior goalkeeper Shea Vanderbosch made two stops -- one each on Audrey Lefebvre and Molly Andrews. The Bobcats' Gwen Hoyt turned away one Syracuse shot from the foot of freshman Julia Arbelaez.
ORANGE RAISE PLAY AFTER INTERMISSION
Syracuse went on the attack right after the break ended with early shots from Arbelaez and Klammer. The Orange put together its best threat to that point when Klammer carried down the middle of the field and gave a lead pass to freshman Abby Incorvaia on her right. Hoyt came out to thwart the effort at 59:38.Â
Syracuse had two additional chances about seven minutes later. Sophomore Gabby Wisbeck tagged a shot that Hoyt managed to get a hand on. Klammer jumped on the loose ball but her header went off the cross bar.
The Orange battled to the final whistle, forcing three corner kicks in the final two minutes.
VANDERBOSCHÂ STOP KEEPS THE ORANGE WITHIN REACH
Vanderbosch made a stunning stop just prior to the Quinnipiac score. Alves had a free kick opportunity and went for the net. Vanderbosch extended and deflected the ball away from the goal.
