
Both Orange Track Teams, 5 Individuals Honored by USTFCCCA

Both the Syracuse men's and women's track and field teams, and five individuals were honored by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for their success in the classroom, in addition to performances on the track.
Both teams earned USTFCCCA All-Academic Team distinction once again, after posting cumulative team GPAs of 3.0 or better. The women led the way with a 3.46 team GPA, while the men held a 3.09 team GPA.
Additionally, two men and three women earned USTFCCCA Track & Field All-Academic awards. In order to qualify, a student-athlete must have above a 3.25 GPA, including the most recent grading period and have finished in the top-96 nationally in a an indoor event, or have qualified for the first round or further of the NCAA Championships in outdoor track and field.
Heidi Demeo (Human Development and Family Science), Emma Eastman (Exercise Science) and Rylie Lusk (Marriage and Family Therapy) represented the Orange women, while Perry Mackinnon (Entrepreneurship and Emerging Enterprises) and Xayvion Perkins (Public Communications and Political Science) earned the award for the men.
Demeo reached the NCAA East Prelims in the 1500-meter run this season, her first at Syracuse after transferring from Oklahoma State. She placed 38th in the opening round of NCAA competition to conclude her season, which also featured a 28th-place finish at the NCAA Northeast Regional in cross country, to help the Orange earn an automatic berth to the NCAA Championship.
Eastman had a strong season, highlighted by scoring and earning All-ACC honors in the 10,000-meter run at the conference championship meet in May. She reached the NCAA East Prelims in the event, taking 33rd in the 10k semifinal. Eastman also earned All-ACC and USTFCCCA All-Northeast Region accolades during the cross country season.
Lusk, another member of the Orange who was a USTFCCCA All-Northeast Region honoree during cross country, qualified for the NCAA semifinal in the 10k. She placed 22nd in the event, which came two weeks after a top-15 finish at the conference meet in the 10k.
Mackinnon only had outdoor eligibility remaining this season and used it to reach the NCAA East Prelims. He placed 32nd in the 10k during the NCAA semifinal race, also taking 12th at ACCs in the event earlier in the season.
Perkins earned All-ACC honors this season by taking fifth in the 400-meter hurdles at the ACC Championships. He followed that up by advancing to the quarterfinals of the event at the NCAA East Prelims, finishing 23rd overall.
