THE GAME
- Another new season begins this weekend for the Syracuse University men's lacrosse team as postseason play returns to the JMA Wireless Dome for a second straight year.
- It's another rematch on deck for the sixth-seeded Orange as they square off against a Harvard team that topped Syracuse 15-14 in the Dome at the end of February. Since then, the Orange have gone 7-3, including a six-game winning straight through March and the first week of April.
- Syracuse returns home one last time this spring as ACC Champions after knocking off No. 9 Duke 9-8 in the ACC title game on Sunday. Six different Orange produced points while ACC Tournament Most Valuable Player Jimmy McCool made 10 saves in the title bout.
- Last time out for the 12th-ranked Crimson saw Harvard drop an 11-8 decision in Ithaca against eventual Ivy League runner up Princeton last weekend. Jack Speidell led Harvard with three goals and an assist.
- Syracuse is 7-2 at the Dome this year and holds a 2-0 record in rematch games so far this postseason.
- Harvard is 10-4 on the season, including an impressive 4-1 road record, falling only to Princeton in Central New Jersey in March.
- ESPNU will carry Sunday's 5 p.m. game from the JMA Wireless Dome with Mike Corey and Mark Dixon on the call.
- Tim Leonard '20 (play-by-play) and Kyle Fetterly '09 (analyst) take to the airwaves on Syracuse Sports Network and TK99/105 locally, Cuse.com, The Varsity App, and TuneIn App, as well as Syracuse University student-radio station WAER.
KEEPING IT 100
- Sunday sees the Orange join rare air, becoming just the third team to play in its 100th NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Tournament game.
- The Orange are 69-30 all-time in the NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Tournament and lead the all-time standings with 11 NCAA Division I National Championships.
- Only Maryland (115) and Johns Hopkins (113) have played in more games. Maryland will add at least one more with its game on Sunday afternoon as well.
- Virginia is knocking on the door of 100, currently sitting at 97.
COMING HOME CHAMPIONS
- If you're going to travel over 700 miles, you might as well make it worth it.
- Syracuse did just that, picking up two top-10 wins along the way against No. 6 Notre Dame (14-12) and No. 9 Duke (9-8) at the 2025 ACC Men's Lacrosse Championship.
- It was the third ACC Championship for Syracuse since joining the ACC for the 2014 season and the program's first league title since 2016.
- A relative newcomer to conferences, Syracuse now has five league titles to its credit, winning the 2012 and 2013 BIG EAST Championships in its lone two seasons in that conference before winning the 2015 and 2016 ACC Title.
- Syracuse has won half of the conference championships that have been contested since joining the BIG EAST for 2012. The ACC did not hold a conference tournament between 2020 and 2023.
- Syracuse has never played a team more in conference tournaments than Duke as the Orange now possess a 5-1 record against the Blue Devils in the ACC Tournament, including all three championship games.
- More impressive that Syracuse has won four titles as either the three seed or the four seed. Only the 2013 BIG EAST title was a higher seed as the number two team in that tournament.
THE HARVARD SERIES
- Syracuse is 18-1 all-time against Harvard since the two teams first met back at the tail end of the 1919 season.
- The Orange are 6-1 at home against the Crimson, with the lone blemish coming earlier this year.
- Sunday marks just the second time Syracuse and Harvard meet in the NCAA Tournament and the first time in nearly 20 years as the Orange picked up an 11-4 first-round victory in 2006.
- The game earlier this year was the first time these teams met since that 2006 contest.
- Syracuse and Harvard tangled every year from 1919 until 1931, all victories for the Orange, including four shutouts and 10 games played on the banks of the Charles River.
