
Orange Set for NCAA Prelims

The NCAA East Preliminary is up next for the Syracuse track and field teams. Twelve Orange runners qualified for the event, and will now compete looking to punch their ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon.

Men's 110-Meter Hurdles First Round | Wednesday, 6 p.m.
Emanuel Joseph will be the first on the track for the Orange in the 110-meter hurdles. There are six heats in the first round, which will cut down from 48 runners to 24 runners for Friday's quarterfinal.
Joseph is in the final heat. The top-three from each heat plus next-six fastest times advance to Friday. Joseph (13.74 seconds) will be in lane two, alongside LSU's Matthew Sophia (13.31 seconds) in lane three, who has the best mark this year in the heat. Joseph has the fifth-best time this year in the heat, but it's a tightly packed group, as just 0.13 seconds separates fifth and third on the seed list.
Should Joseph advance, he'll race again at 6:15 p.m. on Friday in the quarters.
Men's 400-Meter Hurdles First Round | Wednesday, 8:20 p.m.
The 400-meter hurdles will follow the same format as the 110-meter hurdles, with the field split in half the same way from Wednesday to Friday. Xayvion Perkins will race in the 400H for the Orange, where he'll compete in the opening heat.
Perkins (50.91 seconds) has the sixth-best time in his heat this season. Penn's Ryan Matulonis (49.54 seconds) has the distinction of the top mark of the group.
The quarterfinals of the 400-meter hurdles will be on Friday at 7:25 p.m.
Men's 10,000-Meter Run Semifinal | Wednesday, 9:10 p.m.
Three 'Cuse runners qualified in the 10k, which is the third-most of any school in the field, trailing just Notre Dame and Harvard. The one-race semifinal will see the top-12 finishers advance to the NCAA title race in Oregon.
Sam Lawler is the top-seed for 'Cuse, checking in at 12th on the seed list (28:21.63). Furman's Dylan Schubert (27:45.63) has the best time this season in the East. Assaf Harari is 18th (28:23.69), while Perry Mackinnon (28:43.37) is 36th.
Lawler (2024) and Mackinnon (2023) have successfully advanced from this meet previously in their collegiate careers to reach the NCAA final.
Women's 1,500-Meter Run First Round | Thursday, 6:30 p.m.
Heidi Demeo will be the first Orange woman on the track at the meet, opening things up in the first heat of the 1,500. There are four heats of the event, with the field cut in half from Thursday to Saturday. The top-five finishers in each heat, plus next four fastest times, will move on to the quarterfinals.
Demeo (4:18.43) has the national leader – Virginia's Margot Appleton (4:05.68) – in her heat as the race favorite. Should Demeo advance, she'll compete at 5:15 p.m. on Saturday.
Women's 200-Meter Dash First Round | Thursday, 8:45 p.m.
Iaunia Pointer will look to move on in the 200-meter dash, which features six heats on Thursday. The top-three finishers in each heat, plus next-six fastest times, advance to Saturday's quarterfinal round.
Pointer (20.09 seconds) will race in heat five. It's a tightly packed group. East Carolina's Kelly Ufodiama (22.69 seconds) has the best seed time in the field, but Pointer's time separates her by less than a tenth of a second from the No. 3 seed in the heat.
Those who advance will compete on Saturday at 7:50 p.m.
Women's 10,000-Meter Run Semifinal | Thursday, 9:10 p.m.
Emma Eastman, Rylie Lusk and Savannah Roark are all qualifiers in the top-20 based on seed time for the 10,000-meter run. The top-12 finishers will advance to Oregon from the one-race semifinal.
Eastman has the eighth-best time in the field at 32:47.21. Lusk is 13th in 33:13.56, while Roark is 19th in 33:22.60. Roark is looking for her second-straight trip to the NCAA Championships in the 10k, while Lusk and Eastman seek their first.
Syracuse is the only school with three runners seeded in the top-20, and tied for the second-most total runners in the field behind only Notre Dame.
Men's 3,000-Meter Steeplechase Quarterfinal | Friday 5:40 p.m.
The 3,000-meter steeplechase will feature one quarterfinal in Jacksonville, with the top-three from each heat, plus next-three fastest times advancing to Oregon, where they will hold a semifinal and final.
Solomon Holden-Betts and Julian Franjieh are both in the field for the Orange, with Holden-Betts in heat one and Franjieh in the third and final heat. Holden-Betts has the 11th-best seed time in his 16-man heat. He posted a time of 8:50.08 earlier this year. Louisville's Geoffrey Kirwa, the national leader, is also in heat one. Franjieh (8:43.47) owns the eighth-best mark in his heat.
