THE GAME
- A blue-blood battle awaits Syracuse as the 11th-ranked Orange host No. 7 Johns Hopkins Sunday afternoon in a clash of the sport's two winningest programs, combining for nearly 2,000 wins in the history of the teams.
- Syracuse and Hopkins meet for a fourth-straight regular season and the second time in the last three seasons at the JMA Wireless Dome. The Orange topped the then-fourth ranked Blue Jays 14-13 in Charlotte, North Carolina at the 2024 edition of the Crown Lacrosse Classic.
-Sunday's game is slated for a 2 p.m. opening faceoff for the first nationally televised game of the year for Syracuse as ESPNU picks up the game. Syracuse graduates Jay Alter '16 alongside All-American midfielder and national champion Paul Carcaterra '97 handling analyst duties.
- Tim Leonard '21 (play-by-play) and Kyle Fetterly '09 (analyst) take to the airwaves on Syracuse Sports Network and ESPN Radio Syracuse (97.7) locally, Cuse.com, The Varsity App, and TuneIn App, as well as Syracuse University student-radio station WAER.
THE JOHNS HOPKINS SERIES
- Over one hundred years in the making, the Syracuse and Johns Hopkins series dates back to 1921.
- Though the teams have not met every year in that span, the Orange and Blue Jays will clash for the 63rd time in series history and for a fourth-straight season. Two of the last three games have been at the JMA Wireless Dome.
- It's an evenly-matched series in the last 10 meetings, with either side picking up five wins in that span running back to 2015.
- The Orange have won three of the last five games, including last season with a 14-13 neutral site decision in Charlotte, North Carolina. That win was the first top-five win for Syracuse under head coach Gary Gait.
- Syracuse and Johns Hopkins have met five times in the NCAA Division I National Championship game, with Syracuse winning three times (1983, 1989, 2008).Â
- All told, Syracuse has won 29 of the previous 62 meetings, a series that includes on tie, a 4-4 final score in the very first meeting between programs back on April 30, 1921 The Orange are 11-10-1 all-time at home against Hopkins.
A WIN ON SATURDAY WOULD...
- Improve Syracuse to 4-1 at home this spring.
- Boost Syracuse to 30-32-1 all-time against the Blue Jays dating back to 1921.
- Be the second-straight win for the Orange over Johns Hopkins, the first back-to-back wins against the Blue Jays since winning in 2019 and 2020.
- See Syracuse win over Johns Hopkins at home for the first time since 2019.
- Be the 953rd win in program history, second-most among Division I programs.
CONTROL THE CLOCK
- Syracuse has controlled the clock this year in a big way

- Per Lacrosse Reference, Syracuse averages 31:25 in time of possession this year with a national-best +57 in possessions this year. Rutgers has the next-closest possession rate at +42.
