Orange to Welcome Back Championship Team for Special Reunion Weekend on March 1
The Syracuse University Women's Basketball Team will celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the program's historic 2015-16 NCAA Final Four season with a special reunion weekend, welcoming back the 2016 National Finalist team for the final regular season home game on March 1, 2026 against Boston College.
"We're excited to welcome back members of the 2015-16 women's basketball team back for what remains one of the most memorable seasons in our program's history," Director of Athletics John Wildhack said. "Their NCAA Tournament run captivated Orange Nation and created a lasting legacy in Syracuse. It will be a special moment in the JMA Dome this season when we celebrate them once again."Â
Â
The celebration will honor the team that made program history with Syracuse's first-ever appearance in the NCAA Championship game, posting a school-record 30-8 overall mark and the program's best ACC record at 13-3 in conference play.
Â
"We are excited to welcome back the 2015-16 team to celebrate their historic season that wrote an incredible chapter in our program's history," Syracuse head coach Felisha Legette-Jack said. "Their legacy continues to inspire us today as we work to bring Syracuse back to National prominence."
Â
Led by one of the best senior classes in program history, the Orange reached the program's first ACC Tournament title game before embarking on a magical NCAA Tournament run. After earning a top-16 seed and hosting the First and Second Rounds of the tournament for the first time in school history, Syracuse defeated No.3 South Carolina, the top seed in the Sioux Falls Regional, and seventh-seeded Tennessee to advance to the program's first Final Four in Indianapolis.
Â
The Orange's suffocating defense defined the historic season, forcing a nation-leading 23.9 turnovers per game while posting the country's top turnover margin at +10.1. Syracuse forced 17 or more turnovers in all six NCAA Tournament games, overwhelming opponents with relentless pressure that led to 12.6 steals per contest on the season.
Â
Junior Alexis Peterson led the Orange with 16.0 points per game and 173 assists, while Brittney Sykes added 10.3 points and 5.1 rebounds. Senior sharp-shooter Brianna Butler contributed 13.2 points per game, connecting on 129 three-pointers. Inside, Briana Day anchored the paint with 9.8 points and a team-high 7.9 rebounds, while Cornelia Fondren dished out a team-leading 124 assists.
Â
The senior class of Maggie Morrison, Fondren, Aliyah Parris, Butler, Taylor Ford and Sykes finished their careers with 99 wins, making them the winningest class in program history.
Â
The Orange had a season-best 11-game winning streak that carried into the ACC Championship game and Syracuse went 16-2 at home during the 2015-16 season before ultimately falling to Connecticut 82-51 in the national championship game.
Â
The March 1 celebration will include a halftime ceremony honoring the 2016 team, with members of the championship squad being recognized on the court. Additional reunion activities throughout the weekend will provide opportunities for the team to reconnect after a decade has passed since their groundbreaking achievement.
Â
Tickets for the March 1 game at 2 p.m. against Boston College are available online at Cuse.com/basketballtickets.
