Syracuse women's basketball alumna Brittney Sykes '17 has been named to the USA Basketball Women's National Team training camp roster, set for April 1-3 in Phoenix, Arizona, in conjunction with the NCAA Women's Final Four.
Sykes, a 5-foot-9 guard from Newark, N.J., brings extensive USA Basketball experience to the camp. She is a two-time medalist at the FIBA AmeriCup, earning gold with the 2019 USA AmeriCup Team — which posted a perfect 6-0 record in San Juan, Puerto Rico — and silver with the 2024 USA 3x3 AmeriCup Team, also in San Juan. She was also a participant at the 2024 USA 3x3 Women's National Team Development Camp in November and has been a member of the USA Basketball Women's National Team pool since 2018. Her national team history dates to 2012-13, when she participated in USA U18 and U19 National Team trials.
In the WNBA, Sykes was drafted seventh overall by the Atlanta Dream in the 2017 WNBA Draft. She is a four-time WNBA All-Defensive Team honoree — earning first-team recognition in 2021 and 2023 — and was named to the 2017 All-Rookie Team.
At Syracuse, Sykes started 137 of 138 games over four seasons and averaged 13.4 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game and helped lead the Orange to their first NCAA National Championship Game in program history in 2017. She is a 2012 McDonald's High School All-American out of University High School in Newark, N.J.
The Women's National Team is preparing for the 2026 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup, set for September 4–13 in Berlin, Germany.
