INDIANAPOLIS – For the 18th time in program history, Syracuse University field hockey is dancing in the NCAA Tournament. The Orange learned their fate Sunday night as the team gathered in the locker room for the NCAA Selection Show on NCAA.com
After earning an at-large bid, the Orange will take on Harvard Friday afternoon with a 2:30 p.m. first push at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex in Storrs, Connecticut. The winner between the Orange and the Crimson will get the winner of the day's first match between the site host, third-seeded UConn, and UMass.
Syracuse, which went 13-6 through the regular season and the ACC Tournament, will play in the NCAA Tournament for the 18th time and for a fourth-straight season.
Entering Sunday, Syracuse boasted the ninth-best Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) in Division I, backed by the strength of the Atlantic Coast Conference, which as a league had the best RPI in the country. Syracuse had the seventh-best nonconference RPI in Division I and was one of just two programs with multiple wins over teams slotted in the top five of the RPI. Syracuse had six wins during the regular season and ACC Tournament against NFHCA Coaches Poll Top 20 programs, including a 5-3 mark since October 4.
