Syracuse Extends Singles Winning Streak On Day One At UB Indoor Invite

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Syracuse University women's tennis team picked up right where it left off last weekend on Friday at the UB Indoor Invite, as the Orange won all four of their singles matches to open the event. Buffalo is hosting the tournament through Sunday at the Miller Tennis Center.
After going 12-0 in singles at last weekend's Big Red Invite, Syracuse turned in its fourth straight 4-0 day in singles Friday evening. The Orange have gone 32-2 in sets in their 16 straight singles wins.
Serafima Shastova advanced her singles winning streak to double-digits on Friday, as her 6-0, 6-0 sweep of George Washington's Vaida Matuseviciute was her 10th consecutive victory. It was her second win in as many weekends without losing a game and the two bagel sets brought her season total to nine.
Syracuse's other three Friday winners in singles all extended their winning streaks to four. Shiori Ito dropped just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 triumph against Karen Verduzco of George Washington. The senior has now won eight straight singles sets, all of which have come by 6-0, 6-1 or 6-2 scores. Nelly Knezkova was almost as efficient as Ito, as she dispatched George Washington's Victoria Sasinka 6-2, 6-1 for her seventh victory of the fall. The sophomore's four consecutive wins have all come in straight sets.
Constance Levivier endured a three-set battle to complete the Orange's singles sweep. She took down Madison Lee of George Washington 6-2, 6-7, 10-3 for her seventh win of the fall and her second in a final frame.
Levivier and Shastova also teamed up for a doubles victory Friday, as they defeated George Washington's duo of Vaida Matuseviciute and Solange Skeene 6-2 for their fifth win together this fall.
The red-hot Orange continue play at the UB Indoor Invite on Saturday. Syracuse's matches are slated to begin at 4 p.m.
