
Orange Open Weekend at Princeton

The Syracuse cross country team opened a busy weekend at the Princeton Fall Classic on Friday.
The teams split their squads this weekend, with the Orange also set to race in the Pre-Nationals meet at Wisconsin on Saturday. That meet, one of the most competitive meets of the regular season, will feature 19 of the nation's top-30 ranked programs.
The SU women took 19th at Princeton, where they were le by Baneet Bains, who placed 55th overall. Bains finished the 6k course in 20:50.9. Beatriz Fernandes was 74th in 20:57.1, followed five placed behind by freshman Sarah Lawson (21:02.0). Justus Holden-Betts (21:19.5) was 107th, and Bethany Steiner concluded the scoring in 119th, with a time of 21:28.1.
Caroline Kirby (21:33.8), Olivia Shattuck (21:54.6), Lauren Augustyn (22:25.9), Sarah Cobb (22:33.0) and Leah Futey (22:49.2) rounded out the women's field.
The Orange men took 19th overall at Princeton. Kamari Miller was the top finisher in 55th place after posting a time of 23:55.4 over the 8k race. Julian Franjieh (24:14.6) was 90th, followed by Solomon Holden-Betts (24:37.9 in 126th. Joey Hendershot (25:31.2) placed 192nd, one spot ahead of Gabriel Planty (25:32.4) to round out the scoring.
'Cuse is back in action tomorrow morning at Wisconsin.
