Syracuse's defense set the tone early forcing its Central New York neighbors to punt the ball away on their first three drives of the game. LeQuint Allen Jr. scored the first touchdown of the season for the Orange with 7:18 to play in the first quarter. Allen Jr. made a 35-yard run during the drive, to put the Orange down to the 6-yard line, before finishing the drive himself for the score. Brady Denaburg's extra point was through the uprights to give the Orange a 7-0 advantage.
A D'Marcus Adams 39-yard punt return ignited a Syracuse scoring drive that saw back-to-back completions from Shrader to Orande Gadsden II, creating a first-down opportunity from the Colgate 25. Shrader found Damien Alford on a 13-yard pass to put the Orange head by two touchdowns, just 2:18 after Allen's score.
Wilson's 34-yard pick-six on the ensuing Colgate drive made it 20-0 in Syracuse's favor. The Orange defense came up with another big stop when Justin Barron forced a Raiders fumble that Alijah Clark recovered on the 42-yard line. Syracuse then converted a field goal from Denaburg from 25 yards out to lead 23-0 by the end of the first quarter.
It marked the first three-touchdown first quarter for Syracuse since a 59-0 win over Wagner on Oct. 1, 2022 at the Dome.
Shrader threw his second touchdown pass of the day to Jones, capping off an eight-play, 85-yard drive with 11:36 remaining in the second quarter, a comfortable 30-point lead early in the frame. The Orange scored again with 7:13 left before halftime when Shrader and Gadsden II connected for a 14-yard pass up the middle and held the 37-0 lead through halftime.
The Orange extended its lead to 44-0 at the 11:55 mark of the third when Shrader threw a four-yard pass to Umari Hatcher. Hatcher's second collegiate touchdown.
Shrader was lifted after the first drive of the third quarter, ending his day with 257 yards through the air and four touchdowns.

Carlos Del Rio-Wilson threw a deep pass up the middle to Hatcher for 48 yards, who was taken down by the ankles on the Colgate five yard line on his opening series. The next snap resulted in a five-yard short pass to Jones to increase the lead to 51-0.
Greg Delaine came away with his first collegiate interception later in the quarter to give the offense the ball back. Del Rio-Wilson connected with Kendall Long for his first collegiate touchdown on the ensuing play, which gave the Orange a 58-point lead following the extra point.
Darrell Gill Jr. added to the first time scorers list, catching his first collegiate touchdown from Del Rio-Wilson with 1:34 to play in the frame.
Syracuse took a 65-0 lead into the fourth quarter and maintained the margin for the final 15 minutes as the Orange cruised to a 1-0 start for the year.
Syracuse's quarterbacks shared the love, throwing touchdown passes to six different Orange receivers in the win. Del Rio-Wilson completed 10 passes on 13 attempts and threw for three touchdowns and 149 yards in relief of Shrader.
Allen Jr. had a career-high 16 rushing attempts in the first half and had 107 yards by halftime, however he didn't have a carry in the second half. Gadsden's 12 yards on his first reception of the game pushed him over 1,000 career receiving yards at Syracuse. He finished the game with six receptions for 57 yards and a touchdown.
Four different Orange defenders had seven tackles to tie for the team lead, including Wax who had a quarterback sack for a nine-yard loss. Both Wilson and Delaine recorded their first career interceptions.
Denaburg had a successful debut as Syracuse's placekicker connecting on his only field goal attempt - a 25-yarder.
Syracuse improves to 32-31-5 all-time against Colgate and has won 17-straight meetings. The Orange improve to 87-43-4 in season-opening contests.
