THE GAME
- #3 Syracuse faces Hobart in a battle of unbeaten teams with the Kraus-Simmons Trophy on the line.
- The game will be broadcast on ACC Network with Jay Alter and Ric Beardsley on the call. Brian Higgins and Kyle Fetterly will broadcast the action on TK99/105, Cuse.com and the TuneIn App, while WAER will also carry the game.
PROMOTIONS CENTRAL
- Replica Dome Tins will be given to fans in attendance on Friday night, to honor the team's final game under the original roof. Five hundred tins will be distributed during the lacrosse doubleheader with the Syracuse women's lacrosse team while supplies last.
- Immediately following the game, the winning team will be presented with the Kraus-Simmons Trophy on the field. Fans of the winning team are encouraged to stay in their seat to watch the trophy be hoisted.
- Orange fans in the greater New York City area are invited to the Orange's Tri-State Weekend Kickoff Event on March 13 before Syracuse faces Rutgers. Details for that event can be found here:Â Tri-State Weekend Kickoff
BLOWING THE ROOF OFF
- Home to the Orange since the 1981 season, Friday's game against Hobart will be the last Syracuse lacrosse game under the original air supported roof of the Dome.
- Following Sunday's women's basketball game, the building will be shut down so that the bulk of $118 million in renovations to the facility which hosts SU football, basketball and lacrosse can be done without interruption.Â
- The venue has been Syracuse's home for all 11 NCAA titles and 'Cuse has finished first or second nationally in attendance every season since the NCAA has begun tracking it.
- In total, 1,468,947 fans have watched 287 lacrosse games heading into Friday's game, or an average of 5,118 fans per contest. SU is 247-40 in the Dome all time.
THE HOBART SERIES
- This will be the 106th meeting between the two programs, with Syracuse controlling a 77-26-2 record all-time against Hobart.Â
- The Orange have won six games in a row against the Statesmen, and are 19-2 in the series under head coach John Desko (since 1999).
- The two teams first met on April 29, 1916, in what was the first lacrosse game in Syracuse's program history. Hobart won the game 9-1.
- In last season's matchup, Syracuse won 17-5 after Drake Porter set what was at the time a career high with 16 saves and Stephen Rehfuss (2-3) posted a five-point day.Â
THE KRAUS SIMMONS TROPHY
- The Kraus-Simmons Trophy has been presented to the victor in this annual showdown every year since 1986. The trophy is named for legendary Orange head coach Roy Simmons Sr., who coached at SU from 1931-70 and won 253 career games, and Babe Kraus who compiled 208 victories at Hobart.
- Syracuse has won 31 of the 34 meetings since the trophy has been awarded, including 20 in a row from 1987 to 2005. The Statesmen gained possession of the trophy in 1986, 2006 and 2013. Otherwise it has resided in Syracuse.
- The Orange retained the trophy last season by beating the Statesmen, 17-5.Â
u Due to space limitations on the prior trophy, last year a new base addition has been installed and the trophy was updated. There are now commemorative inscriptions for Kraus and Simmons on each side, with additional space to list the winners. The cup at the top remains the original.
AGAINST THE NEC
- The Orange hold a 78-27-2 record against current members of the Northeastern Conference.
- Hobart is the only member of the NEC that Syracuse plays on a regular basis. Syracuse has played the Statesmen every year since 1985 and hold a 77-26-2 record all-time against Hobart.
- The only other team from the NEC that Syracuse has played is Bryant. The two schools split the two games played. Both games, played in 2013 and 2014, were in the first round of the NCAA tournament.Â
STATE CHAMPS
- This is the fourth of six games vs. in-state competition this year, including a four-straight to kick off 2020.
- Historically, Syracuse has dominated New York. Owning a combined 414-160-10 record against teams from New York.
A WIN AGAINST HOBART WOULD...
- Be the program's 916th victory, second all-time behind Johns Hopkins.
- Retain the Kraus-Simmons Trophy for the seventh-straight season and 32nd time in the 35 meetings which the trophy has been contested.
- Improve SU's record to 70-28 since the start of the 2014 season.
- Move Syracuse to 78-26-2 all-time vs. Hobart.
- Improve Syracuse's record to 415-160-10 against teams from the state of New York.
- Give John Desko 257 wins, tying him with longtime Cornell head coach Richie Moran for 18th in NCAA Division I history.
- Give Syracuse its first 4-0 start since 2016 and only 10th 4-0 start since the team's first NCAA title in 1983.
