Syracuse finishes fourth in final women's standings
McLEAN, Va. – The 2015-16 academic year was certainly the most successful in the history of Syracuse University athletics. The Orange placed fourth in the 2015-16 Capital One Cup final women's standings and finished in 11th place on the men's side.
The Capital One Cup, currently in its sixth year, is awarded to the best men's and women's Division I athletics programs in the nation. Stanford took home the men's crown, while USC finished in first place in the women's competition.
Behind a national title from field hockey, national runner-up finish from basketball, and a trip to the Final Four from lacrosse, Syracuse finished tied for fourth place in the women's standings. It marked the Orange's best finish in the history of the women's award.
Syracuse used a NCAA Championship title from cross country, trips to the national semifinals from basketball and soccer, and a showing in the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals from lacrosse to place 11th in the final men's standings. The Orange were two positions shy of matching their best all-time finish in the men's competition.
