SYRACUSE- Student-athletes from six Syracuse University teams enjoyed a day on the playground with the Salvation Army Daycare Program on Friday, July 22. Members of the football, men's basketball, men's lacrosse, field hockey, women's rowing, and women's cross country/track and field teams participated in a morning session at the Daycare to explain to the children the importance of being active.
Orange athletes spent their time playing games with the children to show them that being active can be both healthy and fun for everyone. While helping kids on the monkey bars and pushing them on swings, the SU group also taught the children an important lesson about finishing their homework. The student-athletes discussed the impact of hard work and success in the classroom leading to an even healthier future for everyone.
The Syracuse University athletes present are a part of the SummerStart group on campus, which includes the incoming freshmen in athletics. Their day at the Salvation Army was used as an introduction to the 'Cuse Cares Community Service program that all student-athletes are involved in, helping athletes and coaches become immersed in the community. For the past 12 years student-athletes have won the Chancellor's Award for Public Service and Community Engagement.
