In 17 years of collegiate coaching, Smith has mentored four All-Americans and nine 1,000-yard rushers. |
In 2013 at Syracuse, coached All-ACC Third Team selection Jerome Smith. |
In 2012, tutored All-Mountain West running back Kasey Carrier who ranked 12th nationally in rushing yards per game (122.4). |
In 2010, coached second-team All-American and All-Big Ten First Team selection Mikel LeShoure who set Illinois single-season records for rushing yards (1,697), scoring (122 points) and touchdowns (20). |
In 2008, mentored second-team All-Mountain West selection Rodney Ferguson (1,105 yards rushing). |

At Northern Illinois, coached two players who earned three All-America awards and were MAC rushing champions in Michael Turner (2002, 2003) and Garrett Wolfe (2004). Wolfe ranked fifth nationally in rushing (1,656 yards) and was selected in the 2007 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears.   |
In 1999, coached Indiana State’s Sheraton Fox who was the first Gateway Conference quarterback to rush for more than 1,000 yards. |
